Coolant Leak

Coolant Leak

I have a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and the coolant line is starting to fail (not leaking yet but will be soon.) This is really the first major repair I’ve had to deal with outside of normal maintenance items like suspension work, spark plugs, and routine upkeep.

What’s incredibly frustrating is that to replace this tiny pipe, the entire engine has to be removed because the line is pressed into the upper oil pan. I’m honestly very disappointed with the engineering design of this vehicle. It makes no sense that a small 3-inch coolant pipe isn’t serviceable on its own without such an invasive repair.

To make matters worse, the repair is going to cost upwards of $4,000 — all because of a part that should have been designed to be easily replaceable.
