Owner Review: 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Limited (Sand Dune Pearl)
Overall Rating: 3.5 / 5 Stars
“An incredibly premium-feeling compact SUV completely soured by a baffling, cheap omission.”
The Good: Premium Comfort & Stunning Looks
Let’s start with the positives, because overall, the vehicle itself is highly impressive. I opted for the Sand Dune Pearl exterior, and it looks incredible. It’s an earthy, unique sand-beige that looks rich, hides dirt perfectly, and feels right at home in the outdoors without screaming for attention.
Stepping into the Limited trim, the interior and exterior build quality feel genuinely premium. The leather seating, cabin insulation, and solid door-thunk make the vehicle feel upscale and robust. Compared to the budget-conscious plastic feel of many compact crossovers on the market, the Crosstrek Limited punches well above its weight class in pure comfort.
The Mediocre: EyeSight Cruise Control vs. Hyundai
My previous vehicle was a 2023 Hyundai Kona Preferred, and if you are coming from the Hyundai ecosystem, Subaru’s EyeSight adaptive cruise control takes some getting used to. It isn't quite as smooth or predictive as Hyundai’s driver assist technology, which handles stop-and-go highway traffic flawlessly. I’ve come to peace with this minor downgrade, however, because the Crosstrek's superior ride quality and premium cabin design more than compensate for the slightly clunky cruise behavior.
The Dealbreaker: The Missing TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring)
Now for the reason this car gets a 3.5-star review instead of a perfect 5: The Canadian-spec 2026 Crosstrek has absolutely zero Tire Pressure Monitoring.
I discovered this the hard way when I walked out to a completely flat tire on a parking lot. Had I not noticed it visually, I would have driven straight onto the road, risking catastrophic damage to the rim or a dangerous highway blowout.
To realize that a top-tier, premium-trim 2026 vehicle—costing what cars cost today—forces you to do a visual walk-around like it’s a 1995 sedan just to check if a tire has air is utterly ridiculous. Cheaper budget compacts (like my old 2023 Kona, or even a base-model Chevy SUV) give you full, real-time digital PSI readouts standard. Subaru deliberately stripped the physical receiver hardware and modules out of Canadian models simply because our federal laws don't mandate it.
Final Verdict
I want to love this car. It drives beautifully, the Sand Dune color is gorgeous, and the cabin feels luxurious. But having to immediately research, purchase, and stick an aftermarket electronic gadget onto the dashboard of a brand-new vehicle just to get a basic, foundational safety feature leaves a incredibly bitter taste in my mouth. If you are a Canadian buyer who values modern safety tech and peace of mind, know exactly what Subaru is cutting corners on before you sign the paperwork.
My 2024 Subaru Crosstrek lease is ending soon. I like the Crosstrek premium and am considering buying or leasing a newer model, but what are comparable cars that I should look into too? In terms of price, safety, size etc. We are a family of 3 with a newborn baby, if that helps.
Looking to get a new car after my hybrid was totaled and I’m considering a Crosstrek. I would like to know people’s genuine opinions. If you’ve had one for a day, if you’ve had one for years.
How does it drive? What’s the fuel economy like? What do you love about it? What do you use it for? What weird petty complaints do you have? What year do you have?
I test drove a 2024 tonight and I liked it!
Thanks in advance!
I'm sure plenty of us have stocked up national park stickers on our Crosstreks. Here are mine on my 24' Green Crosstrek Sport! Share the favorite ones on your Subie!
After shopping for nearly 4 weeks I found my dream. A clean carfax, 2024 Subaru Crosstrek Limited in Alpine Green with just under 30k miles !! Genuinely so pretty, came with the upgraded tailgate protector, wilderness(?) themed anti-glare hood stamp and all-weather liner for the trunk!
Upon negotiation, got them to throw in the cargo net which was missing.
SW FL, $27,500 OTD, and being the first car i’ve ever bought, i’m pretty thrilled 😁
Edit : typo
Hello!
2016 Crosstrek running fine until I hit the remote start button today. I drove just an hour previously.
When turning the key the lights come on. It does not attempt to start, no clicking or turning over.
I read about service mode, so I turned the key on, pressed the brake, and hit the button 3 separate times to turn on/off.
One of these times I did get the car to start, but I had no blower/air conditioning. I was able to drive it around the block. When I got back and turned it off, it would no longer start again.
Remote start was factory installed by Subaru.
How do I fix this?
Hi Folks! :)
I’ll be receiving my Crosstrek (26 Touring) sometime later this week, pretty excited! It’s my first car, hoping I made a good choice.
I wanted to ask what accessories/ gadgets you would recommend to have in the car for either safety or generally a better driving experience?
So far on my list I’ve got:
-first aid kit
-blindspot mirrors (already have blindspot monitors but I figure wouldn’t hurt)
-bike rack
-tomtom? In case of no cell service, idk if that’s a little extreme
And if anyone has advice on how I can keep this car for as long as possible, like 10-15 years?
I plan to follow maintenance schedule strictly. I also wanna avoid possibly having any head gasket or coolant and oil mixing issues.
Since I’ve signed the contract all I’ve been reading are horror stories of people getting “chocolate milk” in spite of following the maintenance schedule and it’s kinda freaking me out😭 and these were all relatively new cars
Went to the dealer for an oil change and couldn’t help but notice when the engine was cold, the level seemed way over the max dot.
I ran the engine for ten minutes, then let it sit for five, and these are the results, still over the line.
Everything today is closed for Canada Day, including the Subaru dealer and mechanics nearby, and I need to drive about two hours home.
Will it be ok?
New to me 2024 low pressure sensor lit up showing back right tire was low. Put air in it and the sensor is till on but pressure is good. Am I going to have to take it back to the dealer to reset? I just bought it three weeks ago. Slightly frustrating.
I’m looking at buying a 2017 cross trek with about 50k miles. Just wanted to get some honest takes on the cross trek. Any apparent issues I should know about?
Thanks!
2026 Crosstrek Touring. Upgrade from a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. Love it, the drive is so smooth and she is so pretty. Can’t wait to go camping and drive to work in our snowy Canadian winters.
I am not convinced I need this for $99/year expense. I have AAA. Please advise why I might want to pay this annual fee (or not).
2018 crosstrek premium 4cyl 2.0L 143k miles, recently purchased this vehicle, coolant reservoir looks grayish same radiator cap, dip stick oil has a light coloring to it that can put my finger on, im in Az so its warm even in the mornings now, on cold start white smoke blows out the exhaust but then it disappears and does not come back till next cold start.
no chk eng light, does not over heat, drives good, my obd scanner does not mention anything that could be related to oil and coolant mixing.
