Canadian Vet School Options
I'm looking for some advice from you who have been there done that with vet school applications. I graduated from highschool last year with a 4.0 gpa, and did a year of undergrad outside a program to take some time for me after highschool. In my undergrad year I found the first term trickier and got a 3.0 gpa with 4 science courses. The winter term I took again also with 4 sciences but I felt like I was more comfortable with the university environment and got a 4.3gpa. I hope to keep these grades up and show an upward trend from my terrible fall term. I have 1000+ hours in mixed animal medicine working as a float and unregistered tech for several years, and now work in a large animal medicine clinic who specializes in dairy farming with 2000+ hours. I also grew up on a decent sized farm and have worked with all species including exotics. I have worked outside of vet med in a local bakery at customer service and as a part time Nanny.
I am hoping to apply to vet school soon, but it sounds like a degree is my best option to get in. I will take a degree if I have to, but financially it's a bit of a stretch for me right now. Should I finish my pre-reqs for Canadian vet schools next year and apply with my current standings? What are my chances of getting into WCVM as a BC student without a degree? What should I focus on improving? I am applying overseas this cycle to Australia and UK this cycle.
I understand it is a process and very competitive. It would be very reassuring to hear if anyone else has gotten in with how my stats are looking so far!
Thanks in advance!
