OBS + Zoom setup help: How to record clean lectures with live drawings, but hide student info?
Hey guys!
I teach live classes on Zoom, but I want to simultaneously record a "clean" version in OBS to use as VOD course material later—ideally with zero editing.
Here’s the goal for the OBS recording:
- Video: Only my lecture slides. No Zoom UI, chat, or student faces/names.
- Audio: Only my mic. Desktop audio(student voice) needs to be completely muted in the recording.
Here’s my biggest roadblock:
I annotate and draw a lot while I teach. I realized that if I use Zoom’s built-in annotation tool, the drawings don't show up in the OBS Window Capture because it only grabs the presentation window, not the Zoom overlay.
I want to avoid the nightmare of having to re-record or manually add drawings back in post-production.
Questions
How do you guys handle this?
Is there a specific workflow or plugin combo that allows a true "one take" clean recording with realtime drawings?
I wrote this post hoping to get some help with your ideas or if there are any OBS plugins that might work.
Any advice would be a lifesaver.
