This is an update post to a post made 26 days ago.

Managing a stream is almost always a solo job. When you watch massive broadcasts, they usually have a dedicated production team behind the scenes. Those producers are triggering sound effects, drawing on the screen, and shifting layouts around on the fly. It makes the stream incredibly interactive. Unfortunately, trying to set that up yourself usually means dealing with complicated routing tools or handing over your sensitive OBS passwords.

That is exactly why I built Poltergeist.

It is a cloud-based dashboard that connects to OBS using just a single Browser Source. By granting access to your trusted moderators, you instantly turn them into a live production team. They can control the overlay, run chat games, and trigger alerts right from their own web browser. They never need your stream key or PC access to do it.

The biggest recent update: The entire backend has been rebuilt. The custom chatbot, stream alerts, channel point redemptions, and chat games now run 100% server-side. They work 24/7, even if the dashboard is completely closed!

Prize wheel moved live, appearing in OBS instantly:

https://poltergeist.cc/images/poltergeistprizewheel.mp4

Here is what can be done with Poltergeist:

Feature Description
On-Stream Telestrator Draw freely over the broadcast in real-time. Great for tactical strategy games, analyzing gameplay, or circling funny moments. Includes a snap grid for precision.
Staging & Layers Prepare graphics off-air in a hidden "Staging" zone, then hit "Push to Live." The overlay can even be split into multiple OBS browser sources (e.g., Layer 2 behind a webcam and Layer 4 in front of it) with zero audio echo.
Keyframe Animations A built-in timeline editor allows for the sequencing of complex visual events. Animate position, scale, rotation, and opacity to create professional lower thirds or pulsing alerts.
Interactive Games Spawn a Prize Wheel or a Carnival Booth. Viewers can play live on the overlay using chat commands (like "!throw") or Twitch Channel Points. Games now run automatically in the background without needing the dashboard open.
Live Widgets & Goals Instantly spawn dynamic Sub/Follower Goal Bars, animated scrolling Event Lists (Stream Labels), tally counters, live polls, or generate QR codes on the fly.
24/7 Event Alerts Reliable, instant alerts for Follows, Subs, Gifts, Raids, and Cheers. Native Follow Alerts are completely free for all users. Alerts can be linked directly to custom animations to trigger automatically.
Cloud Chatbot Build custom commands with aliases, let viewers trigger Soundboard audio directly via chat, set strict VIP/Subscriber-only permissions, and schedule smart auto-timers.
Media & Chroma Key Display images with live green screen removal, create auto-looping slideshows, or play video files directly on stream.
Unified Chat Feed Embed live chat directly onto the overlay, with options to combine Twitch and Kick chat into a single, clean feed.

How to set it up:

  1. Log in via Twitch, Kick, or YouTube.

  2. Add the unique link into OBS as a Browser Source.

  3. Open the dashboard on a phone, tablet, or secondary monitor.

  4. Start spawning assets and controlling the stream. (Moderators simply log in with their own accounts to be granted access).

Transparency on Pricing: There is a completely free "Starter Kit" tier that provides access to all features with reasonable usage limits. For channels looking to scale, a paid "Broadcast Suite" upgrade unlocks unlimited assets, scenes, and the advanced Chatbot builder to help sustain server hosting costs.

Feedback and ideas for new widgets or features are highly encouraged and always welcome in the comments.

Okay, idk if this is just a me thing, but can someone help me with this issue in OBS cuz i am SOOOOOOOOO done with it (see other post for example)

So there is this issue in OBS that makes things SO infuriating, and it has to deal with Deltarune. Y'see for some bizarre, unexpected reason, when I launch Deltarune and try to record footage, OBS just shits itself and makes it so that way the display is just a png for lack of a better word. And what's even stranger is that this is ONLY a issue when I launch Deltarune. If I do literally ANY OTHER GAME, it works like normal and is completely fine. I've tried game capture, I've tried relaunching window capture, I've opening a different sense, I've tried looking it up, I've even tried resetting my computer, and I've even tried running OBS as an administrighter. And still, NOTHING. So please, if ANYONE knows of a solution, lemme know. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Screen freezing in OBS MacBook

So I have a MacBook Air M3, and every time I stream a screen capture it freezes. Could be after a couple of seconds or after a couple of minutes. Every time it freezes, I have to manually go to the screen capture and click "restart capture," and it comes back to normal. I have to do that a lot of times. On my MacBook, it is very smooth. The issue is only on OBS itself. I have tried googling this issue and also searching it up with ChatGPT, and nothing works. I am using macOS Sequoia 15.4.1. I do not want to update to macOS Tahoe because I do not like liquid glass. This does not happen with audio. Only with screen capture. Also, my DSLR is freezing, but I believe that has nothing to do with the issue I am discussing right now. I have streamed the same on my Windows gaming laptop, and I do not have this issue at all. I believe it is only on OBS on Mac. This is super annoying because if I am watching YouTube, for example, with my chat, it freezes, and they can't see. Also, this happens whether I have my MacBook connected to my monitor or not.

Advice for a friend with his setup

We have next to nothing to start with right now so PC versus MAC or Apple versus Android.

My friend records lives on his cell phone and it's an old ass phone. I want to get him connected to multiple platforms and I've used OBS before so it makes sense to use it I think.

He is clueless with technology, I would like him to be able to edit clips as well, he's currently on an iPhone, would it make sense to get a newer iPhone or an Android or is there any UPS or Downs between that? I'd be wanting to send the phone into obs on the computer. Here again, do I get him a Macintosh computer or a pc?

I know Mac comes with free video editing software but then there's also DaVinci? I just need some guidance.

Has anyone successfully used TWO DJI Osmo Pocket 3 cameras as webcams on a Mac?

I’m trying to build a multicam streaming setup with two DJI Osmo Pocket 3 cameras on an M2 Mac mini running OBS.

Here’s what I’ve tested so far:

- One Pocket 3 connected directly to the Mac = works perfectly.
- Two Pocket 3s connected directly to separate
- Thunderbolt/USB-C ports = also works perfectly (no lag or quality issues).

My problem is that one of those Thunderbolt ports is normally occupied by my Universal Audio Apollo Twin interface.

I tried using a GoStream as a workaround, but it introduces noticeable latency and lower image quality.

I also tried my current USB-C hub, but it’s not stable enough for this workload.

My goal is to run:

- 2× DJI Osmo Pocket 3 cameras (webcam mode)
- Apollo Twin
- OBS
- Dual monitors

Has anyone actually achieved this reliably?

If so:

- What dock or Thunderbolt dock are you using?
- Is your Apollo connected directly or through the dock?
-Are both Pocket 3 cameras connected to the dock, or is one connected directly to the Mac?

I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who’s running a similar setup before I spend more money on another dock

Source Record Plugin -- is it possible to ONLY record sources (without the main OBS recording)?

I'm trying to stream while also recording my gameplay with a single PC setup. So ideally, in the least hardware demanding way possible. I found this plugin called "Source Record" and I generally have it set up to where it works perfectly, but there is one caveat.

My setup currently has 2 Source Records (which are the only 2 files I need to record):

  • Gameplay

  • Camera

But unfortunately, OBS will first record my entire stream screen locally, creating 3 files rather than 2. The native OBS recording is unfortunately taking up resources for basically no reason as it is not needed.

Has anyone had the same setup and found a workaround? I am struggling to find anyone who's experiencing the same problem.

Thank you!

Best DB settings for Game sound / Mic sound??

Hey guys, pretty new to sound settings and understanding how all this works, but trying to make sure my game sound is good and steady, but also speaking in my mic with the gameplay works well with it too. Anyone have a good rule of thumb or general level setting with dB levels for game sound and mic sound together? Right now I'm using -20 dB for game and -6 for mic. For reference I'm using a wave 3 elgato mic.

Every mic i buy has this weird background noise

Hi, I hope you can help me with this problem. Basically, ever since I bought a microphone for my PC for the first time, I’ve been hearing that strange sound. My friends have to tell me to just type in the chat, because that sound gives them a headache after a while. I thought it was a problem with the microphone, but when I bought another one (a more expensive one, to, as I thought, prevent that from happening again), that sound came back. No matter how many microphones I use, that sound is always there. I tried several microphones I had lying around, and the same sound persisted. I’ve looked everywhere, and nothing works. I’d appreciate any help.

Here's how it sounds:

Davinci-like color correction in OBS ?

hi!

is there any color correction plugin that can handle highlights / shadows?
or am I left with using LUTs only?

or a bit crazy one: any way to "insert" Davinci as a video filter, or use it before the signal enters OBS?

how do you deal with adjusting the color?

- -

would be lovely to have Log video adjusted to the liking before streaming without using LUTs (not adjustable on the fly)

this is to achieve in camera Log recording at the same time as streaming

Game capture audio mutes sounds from behind while desktop audio works fine

I've used OBS for a long time, but only now I've recently noticed a problem. After recording, I noticed that the sounds from behind are almost getting muted, even though at the time of recording I heard everything just fine. Never happened to me before, so tried to fix it through windows settings, game settings and OBS settings, but to no avail.

Apparently, the desktop audio channel works just fine. Game capture is the one that mutes the sounds from behind me as if it had different surround settings. I've always used game capture audio for recordings and I've never noticed this problem. Is there a way to fix it or is the only option to switch to desktop audio?

Would it be worth it to record in 1440p and downscale to 1080p?

I don't have a 1440p monitor. I record in 1080p with a 5060ti but my recordings still don't look great. The res seems low even though the metadata of the file says 1080p it doesn't look like it. And the frames look a little less than 60 but maybe I'm wrong on that. Would it be worth to record in 1440p and downscale to 1080p?

Replay buffer not saving recording

Started using OBS because adrenalin sucks and i've set it up properly after watching countless videos and it worked fine, i press a key and the video gets saved. Even after setting up smart replay mover it worked flawlessly.

But recently obs stopped capturing video after pressing the hotkey until i tabbed into a different program which would then save the video to desktop which is a gamble because sometimes it doesn't save at all.

I don't really know what to do anymore, i have "never disable hotkeys" enabled and haven't changed any settings from back when it worked

youtube video quality

I dont seem to understand why the quality of my videos drop when i post it on youtube. I use OBS to record. I use a 2560 By 1440p monitor, and when i preview the video on youtube it has this visible graphic blur to it, that's not as smooth as i see it on my monitor even when i export the video in 2560 by 1440. I use premiere pro to export the videos, and they seem fine when i preview the exported video, but really bad on youtube. I see other content creators for the same niche i invest in having way better quality than i do, which always makes me wonder what i am doing wrong. I try reaching out to them to give me tips about how to improve video quality, but they just ghost me..... I have tried multiple other resolutions but still to no avail. Below would be the settings i use for my video quality.

OBS record settings:

Record format-mp4
Video Encoder - H.264 HEVC
Rate Control - CBR
Bitrate - 45000 kbps

premiere pro video export settings:

format - H.264
Frame size - Quad HD 2560 x 1440
Frame Rate - 60 fps
Field Order - progressive
Aspect - Square Pixels
Render at maximum Depth - Checked
Use Maximum Render quality - Checked

Performance - Hardware Encoding

VBR 1 pass - 60 MPs

These are settings i use for exporting my videos, which show the most relevance of where i think the issue might be.

ALSO PLEASE NOTE THIS IS NOT FOR PROMOTION

By reviewing one of my videos: https://youtu.be/coGbQ6bkYUY?si=qtiPnqr7y2S94Axj

skip to 15:08 and pause the video to where it shows a prompt "right click", for stopping the current action my character is doing. let me know if you can see that clearly.

Please Review this other content creators video and see how much his quality is better than mine: https://youtu.be/e9bUoLnNj94?si=w_eiCbmyVVYZDYtj

I dont seem to understand where the issue is coming from.

if you closely look at the attached photos taking by my iphone 14 camera from my one of my videos which show some 2 pictures with a snowy atmosphere and the other that shows the content creators video with hime scopped in his weapon. you can clearly see the controls giving for operating the game, but mine barely shows it, its like extremly blurry.

Sorry this is long but, i have been trying to get a resolution for over 6 months now, and its GETTING very FRUSTRATING! i have tried using davinci resolve as well, but its still shows that slight blur to it.

do i need to use another software to edit my videos?
do i need to stop using OBS?
is there a specific bitrate for 2k monitors to show a better quality?

also these are my PC specs, so i dont think its my PC problem:

processor: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core Processor (4.70 GHz)
Ram: 32.0 GB (31.1 GB usable)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 7800 XT (16 GB)
storage: 2TB

so i am sure it can handle most tasking applications.

Encoding overload when streaming and Recording

Hello all,

I have been running into an issue recently where when I stream and record I get an"encoder overload error".

Things I have tried:

Updating drivers for GPU

Updating OBS

Decreasing Bitrate

Changing encoder (CBR, CQP, VBR, etc)

Changing video encoder (between Nvidia H 264 and HVEC)

Setup:

RTX 5070ti

R9 5950x

32 GB DDR4 Ram

2 instances of OBS:

  • Recoding OBS at 5120x1440 (to be able to record facecam and gameplay seperate)
  • Streaming OBS at 1920x1080

This is a dedicated streaming PC so the games I am playing are not taking a hit

Any ideas on how to fix this?

What's the websocket command to set the playlists for a VLC video source?

At the moment, I'm trying to do:

obs_websocket.send_command("SetInputSettings", { "inputName" : "Video Source Name", "inputSettings" : { "playlist" : ["video1.mp4", "video2.mp4", etc] } })

but that doesn't seem to work. I was able to set a regular media source via:

obs_websocket.send_command("SetInputSettings", { "inputName" : afk_videos_source_name, "inputSettings" : { "local_file" : "video.mp4" } })

but I want to set up a playlist dynamically, now.

Why, for the life of me can't I find a reliable way to build a custom ticker to display breaking info?

I'm trying to find a ticker that will allow me to display earthquake activity. But not sure where to get a ticker that just updates itself based on website info. I dont want to have to enter info into the app myself.
