clinic may have given pre exposure shot instead of post exposure

Hello,

Me and my friend went to the same clinic at the same
time and got rabies shots, however mine was meant for post exposure as i was scratched by a dog and hers was a travel booster.

She told them she had taken her rabies series many years ago, and needed just one travel booster as we were going to a high risk area. She hadn’t been exposed, and was taking one just for pre exposure purposes. Meanwhile, i had already been scratched by a dog in turkey and needed post exposure treatment.

My question is, i’m questioning now whether they gave me a post exposure shot, or her travel booster. They put us in the same room, and he seemed to be in a hurry.

Since rabies is fatal, i’m quite concerned. This was my second rabies shot.

I have read the FAQ.

Does the nose or ear anatomy make this possible?

Hello, im sorry if this isn’t my subreddit to post this in, but i thought this might be useful.

I may have a perforated eardrum, and was swimming in a lake possible to have brain eating amoeba and water alot of got inside my ear on August 14th.

My nose is not as issue, as i took extra care and wore nose clips and everything.

I am flying very soon and having severe panic that the cabin pressure will push brain-eating amoeba liquid from my ear deep enough to reach nerves. For instance, when your ear pops or other pressure changes.

I don’t know whether that’s possible or whether it will drain into my nose (which ive read is possible) , where i can then get an infection via the normal route of an N.Fowleri infection as it touches the back of my nose where infection can occur.

I’m particularly worried it will drain into a region of the nose and i will then sniff, or somehow suck it up to the required region for infection. Or somehow, \\\*\\\*the cabin pressure changes during the flight will cause the amoeba drained into my lower nose from ear, to suck up to the olfactory area required for infection.\\\*\\\*

After finding out the lake has a very high chance of the amoeba, and discovering how fatal it is i am incredibly stressed.

Is this just my health anxiety? i cant cancel the flight and really need to get on it.

I will be flying 5 days after the water got into my ear, if that changes anything.

I don’t know anything about nose anatomy to answer this myself. I want to know about anatomy. I am not asking for medical advice.

my biggest fear came true and now i’m spiralling

It happened. Real exposure. I was in a lake known to have brain eating amoeba on friday afternoon. I wasn’t diving, just some people were splashing around and i was sitting nearby and definitely got alot in my nose. However, it wasn’t very high pressure enough for me to worry about N.fowleri (brain eating amoeba) at that moment. Just alot of lake water up my nostrils.

Now, the matter of concern is 48hrs later on sunday morning when i was showering back home in london some high pressure tap water shot up my nose accidentally. High pressure enough to push me back. I’m not thinking about the quality of london’s tap water and amoeba, but my concern is this could have pushed the possibility amoeba from the lake on friday deep up my nose.

It was very high water pressure and i’m now really stressed about the possibility of a fatal infection.

Again, i’m not asking about london tap water having amoeba, im talking about whether the amoeba present in my nose from the lake 48hrs ago could infect me via the high pressure tap water pushing it UP?

Is this a rational concern? I’m quite stressed now.

I just want to know whether an amoeba could survive that long in my nose and whether it could be pushed up and infect 48hrs later?

edit: i just remembered i got some sort of dust stuck in my nose so i was using my wet fingers alot to take it out in the lake… could my wet fingers go deep enough for infection ….

Vaccine leaked from arm immediately and may be ineffective but nurse refuses to redo

Hello.

After cycling in the US and a visible scruffle with a bat and wounds i was advised to take 2 rabies boosters following my course last year.

I had the first one, Verorab, however as soon as she removed the needle i 100% saw a bubble of clear liquid pool out and then she instantly covered it with a plaster and my sleeve was pulled down. I am unaware of how much had leaked.

Google says “this means even though the clinician intended to give it as an intramuscular (IM) dose deep into the muscle, the fluid leaking out means a significant portion of that fluid traveled backward up the needle track (a known issue called "back-flow" or "tracking"). Because rabies post-exposure treatment relies on your body absorbing the absolute full volume of the vaccine, any visible loss of fluid from an IM injection requires it to be either repeated or schedule adjusted.”

I have my second and final booster today, and will ask them however i am nervous they will not take me seriously and will just give me the second shot and not schedule a third as a precaution for the first being ineffective. I cant afford to get a shot privately. What do i do?

I have read the FAQ.

Is the 90 days rule relevant regardless of exposure severity?

If someone had a series of shots already that was guaranteed post exposure less than 90 days ago (less than 3 months) and they have no immune issues but then had another exposure - are they protected regardless of severity?

I have read the FAQ.

I had 2 post exposure shots ending on the 1st june and had a new exposure recently on 9 august but the new exposure was very severe - bat scratch on head - and i want to know whether i am protected if i do not seek more shots.

I cant find information on this anywhere.

EMERGENCY vaccine was given incorrectly and idk what to do

Hello,

I’m looking for advice regarding a possible issue with my rabies vaccine administration.

My rabies vaccination history includes a previous course of 4 doses a few years ago, followed by a booster course of 2 shots on 6th and 9th June 2026 (so 2 months ago) after a cat in Turkey.

recent exposure: on Monday 3rd August, I had a new possible exposure after being scratched on the head by a bat in Wales.

Because I have already been vaccinated, I was advised that I only need 2 further doses. I received my first Verorab dose today, with my second dose scheduled for Monday.

However, after the doctor removed the needle following the injection, I definitely saw clear/white liquid come out of the injection site and form a small bubble-like shape. The doctor then placed a plaster over it, so I could not see how much liquid had come out.

I am now thinking that the vaccine may not have been fully delivered and that I don’t know how much leaked out.

The injection was done quickly, and I’m concerned about whether the dose is still effective.

Should I attend A&E tomorrow to ask about receiving a repeat dose, or should I continue with my planned second dose on Monday and seek advice from the clinic?

If today’s dose is later considered invalid, Monday may become the new Day 0 and the second dose will be considered as Thursday. Could this could be too late as it was a head scratch that BLED and head injuries may takes less than a week and that will be around day 12.

I have read the FAQ.

vaccine clear liquid leaked out of arm

Hello,

My vaccine history is 4 shots last year in may and recently on Monday i was scratched by a bat on the neck in wales.

I only need 2 shots: got one today and next on Monday soon

but today when the doc took the needle out after giving verorab i DEFINITELY SAW clear white liquid leak out in a sorta bubble like form. Then she put a plaster over it so i didn’t see how much leaked.

I am now stressed as my next appointment is Monday. Is the vaccine ineffective? Who knows how much leaked? She did it very quickly.

Should i go to A&E and get a repeat of this dose tomorrow?

Or shall i get the dose 2 on Monday and then wait for professional advice which might mean the first dose today was invalid and Monday becomes day 0 and my dose 2 will be Thursday which might be too late!

I have read the FAQ.
