Hi everyone,

If you have completed your BSCN but awaiting your CNO number, can you still register for the NGG portal and put N/A for CNO #?

Dental Bone Loss- For Lauren!

Hi guys! First time writing in because I had to comment on what Lauren discussed in the last episode.

I am a 27F and also have, and I quote from my scan, "SEVERE bone loss" in lower front four teeth. I had braces in my teens for maybe 3-4 years, done by a super bougie orthodontist in DT Toronto. My teeth were pretty bad before. I started noticing recession in my lower front two teeth and they were also occasionally bleeding. My dentist never mentioned anything to me. This year, I moved and had to find another dentist. My new dentist informed me of this recession and had me do a CBCT scan. This cost me roughly 300$. After this, they told me I must meet with their in office periodontist, which cost me another 200$ (these services aren't covered by insurance). This man told me I MUST do a bone and gum graft, which costs roughly 6 grand. I am currently in my last year of nursing school and those who did nursing know how broke you are, especially in the final year. I explained that I literally DO NOT have the funds for this, and they pushed that my teeth will fall out if I don't get this done as soon as possible. They even stated max 3 months I can wait.

Needless to say, I was devastated. My anxiety was out of control after hearing this. I couldn't afford it, and they couldn't explain to me how this may have happened. I simply could not understand how I lost bone? I am 27, and I have bone loss? I was a wreck and he didn't provide me with any comfort. His bedside manner was horrible and other staff just said, "You will be a nurse soon so you can pay it back!". Ridiculous.

Long story short, I saw a family friend who works in the dental field who told me that my retainer is holding my teeth in place, which is why they aren't loose. If anything, I will most likely need a bone graft, but it can wait if I cannot afford it. This information was all I needed to hear. Now, its been almost a year since this occurred and my teeth are fine, nothing is wiggly or falling out. More importantly, I didn't have to take out a 6,000 $ loan and put myself in debt because some MF wanted me to do a surgery asap.

Lauren, I feel for you. I am on the same boat and trying to figure it out. I'm sorry I don't know anyone to refer you to but I thought my experience would help you feel less alone, if that is how you are feeling. Take your time with choosing what you want to do next and dont let anyone push you, especially if finances are a factor! Much love :)
