This drives me crazy. How do editors move the playhead around?

I've gotten into the very bad habit of clicking the top of the timeline to move the playhead around. As a result I'm constantly clicking open other sequences by accident, resizing the window, moving the window, closing sequences, etc. It's absurd, but I can't stress enough how this has driven me mad for years.

How do other editors work to avoid this? I would love to hear some suggestions so I can try and retrain myself.

For context - I had worked in Avid for years before switching to Premiere, and in Avid you can click anywhere in and around the timeline and the playhead will move there. In Premiere you can't do that.

The best alternative that I can find is using the shortcut "Move Playhead to Cursor" (which surprisingly doesn't have a default shortcut?). For whatever reason I have not been able to get used to using it. I did try assigning it as a button on my mouse, and I had better luck with that, but then I'm tied to a specific mouse and software which isn't ideal as a freelancer.

So I'm just curious what are the ways other editors move the playhead around on the timeline? J-K-L? Keyboard shortcuts to move clip by clip? Or is that shortcut the solution, and I just need to rewire my brain?
