$640 for Misfire Repair?
02 Escape 3.0, 262k miles
Just wanted to reach out and see if this is a reasonable price to fix my cylinder 1 misfire. CEL comes on whenever I go over 50mph and flashes. Turns off after a few drives if I keep it under 50mph. Code reader says P0301.
Shop says that either the ignition coil or spark plug needs to be replaced, but he’s not gonna be sure until he does the job because the access is under/behind the manifold or something so he won’t know which until he gets in there. Charging $640 not including diagnostic charge. Google results are quoting like $200 less than that, but not sure if I can trust the generic results.
I’m supposed to go on a camping trip in a week and I’m working everyday until I leave so I have no time to do this myself (aka have my semi-mechanic savvy friend do it), plus I don’t wanna risk messing it up right before my trip. Also can’t just drop it off with my mechanic-ish friend while I’m working because we’re coworkers and work pretty much the same schedule.
Car still runs like a breeze otherwise and feels like it’s got a lot of life left, so I have no issue spending the money, just wanna make sure the price is as good as it’s gonna get.
