Advice to improve the view for everyone: stay a meter or 2 away from the fencing.

Advice to improve the view for everyone: stay a meter or 2 away from the fencing.

Might seem counterintuitive but you actually can see the action better if you’re not directly at the fence. When you’re directly at the fence, you’ll quickly notice that you can see less and less of the track the more you watch to your side because that’s just how perspective works with the holes of the fences (an example to show you what I mean). If you stay a bit back, you lessen this effect. You also improve the view for those beside you as you’re no longer in the way. All of this would improve everybody’s view if everybody did it.

The biggest downside: not everybody is doing it so it so if people around you are standing directly at the fence you’re actually worse off by standing back. The other downside is that you are like 10% further away from the cars which (in my opinion) is a negligible difference in comparison to the improvement you get in terms of vision.

If you don’t feel like doing this, that’s fine. I just had a convo with a buddy and some strangers and we realized that (in our opinion) most people would have a better experience if everybody did it. Just a thought.

Let me preface this by saying that I’m not really a physics pro. I’m just a normie who’s creating a quiz game for a work event among colleagues.

Basically the question im trying to solve is “if one could use the resting energy of 1 kg mass, how long could he live from that alone?”. The solution I’m getting is 23.5 million years and I just want someone who knows what he’s talking about to check my methodology.

m=1kg

E=mc²=c²=8.987551787×10¹⁶ J

1 kcal =4184 J
1 day = 2500 kcal

E/Year= 365*2500*4184 = 3,817,900,000

 8.987551787×10¹⁶ J / 3,817,900,000 = 23,524,450.99 J

Is this right?

If yes, that’d mean that a grain of rice would be enough to power ~3 people’s whole life.

In your opinion who have been the top 5 drivers of the season?

Antonelli is the obvious option as he’s won 3 of 4 GPs and finished P2 in the other. But he was generally slower than Russell in Australia and Japan and was lackluster in both sprints. Rating him very high might be a case of overrating somebody due to their top-car. It’d be a convenient coincidence if he became the best driver the moment he got the best car. But he has dealt immensely well with the championship pressure so far.

Russell won in Australia and was on course to win Japan if it weren’t for a very unfortunate safety car. But I don’t think you can enter the DOTY debate if you’re 20 points behind your teammate who’s in his second year and hasn’t been mistake-free himself.

Leclerc is a good shout. He was head-to-head with Lewis for the first 2 weekends and left him in the dust in Japan and Miami. That being said, his gap to Hamilton was bigger in 2025 (we don’t know whether that’s Hamilton regaining his confidence or Charles being less confident with the car) and he just threw away a lot of points with the spin at the end of the Miami GP.

Norris is another very good option. If my memory doesn’t betray me, him and Russell are the only top drivers who haven’t had any mistake that jumps out. With the difference that Norris is generally outperforming his team mate. In the race sessions, he’s beaten Piastri 4-1 (counting Australia as a win over Oscar). He dominated the Miami sprint and probably would’ve won the GP if McLaren hadn’t let themselves get undercut.

Verstappen is always a pick but this year he isn’t the standout option. He’s been very closely matched by Hadjar in quali apart from Miami. He’s hasn’t been as phenomenal in the races as he used to. And he just had that spin in Miami. His general race pace is great as always and he’s a valid pick but this season has been scrappy so far for him.

I’m not saying that these are my set in stone top 5 and they definitely aren’t in order - they’re just those that came to my mind the quickest for driver of the season. Hamilton, Piastri, Gasly and Bearman could maybe sneak in my top 5 too. What is your top 5 in order?

I think in the last ~50 years we’ve never had a championship-contending driver pairing that got along as well as Lando and Oscar did.

I think in part that’s just down to them both being calmer drivers than e.g. Max, Fernando, Lewis, Charles, George. What I mean is, they’re not the type to turn a fair fight into a nasty fight while the other drivers I mentioned are more like that.

But the other reason why they got along this well was the way McLaren handled their relationship. By making sure that they didn’t needlessly crash into each other and neither of them felt disadvantaged. Sure, it wasn’t fun to watch the team telling their drivers to be more careful whenever they were fighting. And especially at the beginning of the season it also felt unnecessary because they looked like they’d win the championship even if they crashed into each other 5 times over the season.

But Max’s comeback proved that they were right to savor every point they could get, even if that meant sacrificing hard racing. Even with all the conservativeness, they only won by 2 points. If they had one more point-costing collision like Canada, Singapore or the Cota Sprint, they’d have lost the title.

The only thing that wasn’t really a fair move by McLaren was the switch in Monza and not splitting the strategy in Qatar. Everything else (at least what I can recall) was done in favor of securing the most points or making sure the drivers felt they were treated fairly. And if they had done less of that they probably would’ve lost the title to Max.

Köln -> Frankfurt

Anybody?
