Please explain this to me like i am 5 :-)

I have a 22 Willys Sport with the original mud tires (LT255/75R17).  I would like to swap them out for all terrain tires. Most of my driving is highway, am i able to put P rated tire on there? And should i? (I know just cause i could, does not mean i should). Also is an LT or C rated tire that much more puncture proof for nails or screws?

i get a decent discount on firestones so i have been looking into the Destination A/T2 or X/T.

and i know, the willys sport was probably not a great choice for someone who does not off-road but its a bit late at this point. Thank you everybody
