Temporarily permanent shift cable repair

TLDR: My shift cable went 💩, and I fixed it with a drinking straw.

Hello. I was on my way home today and noticed it was a little difficult to petal. So I looked, and sure enough my rear tire was low. I decided to stop at a gas station and pump it up with my pump.

While pumping up my tire, I noticed that my rear derailer cable is rubbing into the chain. I must have messed it up the last time I changed the tube. I had the tools with me and decided to fix it. My quick 5min stop became a 45min stop.

After routing the cable correctly, I had lost 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. I never removed the cable from the derailer, I didn't have anything to cut the ferrule off the end. I'm riding a fat tire e bike, it's heavy, I need at least 2nd gear to get going without overheating the motor (in the afternoon).

When I got home I ordered a new cable, won't get here until Thursday or Friday. I really don't want to drive to work the rest of the week. The game was on, how can I patch this to make it work for a couple days.

I found an old stainless straw for a cup I lost years ago. It was the perfect size to fit over the cable. I cut a piece off, slid it over the cable, and taped it in place with electrical tape. It's working great and perfectly shifts through all 8 gears.

I'm going to change the cable, probably this weekend. But this should hold for a bit.

I need help finding someone who can bend steel plate.

Hello everyone, I have a project that I am working on and I need to have some pieces of 10ga steel bent. I can cut the pieces to size, I just don't have anything that can bend thicker than 16ga. Above is a quick drawing of what I need, each piece is 38.5in. long, and I would need 6 or 7 of each.

I was hoping someone may have some recommendations for a place that is local. I have contacted Parsons Steel, I haven't herd anything back from them yet.

Thank you all for your time, it is much appreciated.

I need help sourcing high quality solenoids

Hello everyone, I am looking for a source for high quality linear pull solenoids. The solenoid is used to hold the throttle of a Deutz 914 diesel, wide open. I am NOT looking for a shutoff solenoid, this engine only runs at idle, 1000, and 2000 RPM.

I need something that can pull 1 inch and about 20-25 lbs, and 12 volt. I also need it to withstand lots of vibration, heat, and water. These compressors get transported a lot and run in a variety of climate conditions. Cost is not much of an issue, downtime is, I need the solenoid to be dead reliable.

Or if anyone has any ideas that are not solenoids, I was thinking a servo might work. It would be nice to have one actuator for both 1000 and 2000 RPM, currently we are using 2 separate solenoids. This is the solenoid that I am currently considering: https://www.drakecontrols.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/1750-Series-36740_NEW.pdf

Thank you for all of your help and input.
