How do you fix a loose engine bolt?
We just replaced the timing chain of our 2018 Hyundai Elantra. A week after taking it home the engine light came on. They say the bolt that keeps the timing chain tight is loose and they can’t seem to fix it. They say that the only option is to replace the engine. They have had the car for five weeks since the engine light came on, and only told us this after we threatened to take it to another mechanic. I’m wondering if this is true, or if there are other options we could explore with another mechanic before we commit to either buying a new car, or replacing the engine. I think it’s the timing chain tensioner mounting bolt that is the one causing the problems. Not sure if it’s relevant, but the timing chain issue happened after we had brought our car in for cosmetic repairs after a small accident that damaged our bumper but didn’t seem to cause any other damage. When we drove it off the lot after the cosmetic repairs, the engine started making noises.
