@Lindsiann out of touch content

Literally the opening already pissed me off. What do you mean most people “lose” in life when they just get a job, find a partner, pay taxes and die? proceeds to tell people that we need to do more side quests not like getting frozen yogurt on a Tuesday but flying to china for a 4 week retreat. Most people have a regular life because we aint living your influencer LALALAND. Most people don’t even get 4 weeks of PTO in America. People struggle to get medical leave, maternity leave, people who are struggling to pay bills, and you call them losing in life?

This is actually so outrageous to me. People in the comments are mostly praising her that this is so whimsical and fun? I would love to be whimsical and fun if I don’t have to worry about where my next meal is coming from, if my bills are paid, then I’d also love to fly to china for a retreat on a whim for a “side quest”

Canadian Retail Pricing

Im not sure if this has been discussed before but if there’s other Canadian baddies out here let’s have a conversation about pricing!!

I understand Canadian retailers usually have to do conversion from USD prices. but with this new collection specifically I’ve noticed the pricing difference. This is just an example from the nylon tote. Urban Outfitters sells it the cheapest at 74 CAD, then Well.ca is 78.98 CAD but Tekoop sells them at 84.99? $10.99 difference from UO!!

I obviously would like to support Tekoop because it is an independent business and I bought from them multiple times. However with the bags being $5-10 ish difference in each style, it does adds up if I want to buy multiple items it will end up costing me $50 or more to buy the same items from Tekoop than UO or even Well.ca

Have anyone else noticed the pricing? I noticed this only when the nylon tote came out. before I did noticed Tekoop was slightly more expensive but it wasn’t that much so I just thought it was a slight conversion difference.

What do yall think? 😭

“They should be charged…”- Lions Bay Search and Rescue

Very grateful to have our SAR doing such important work ❤️

Here is also a reminder that even though our SAR is free of charge, it is still our own responsibility to evaluate our ability to be in the great outdoors! Always remember you can turn back if you don’t feel comfortable going forward. Prepare gears and resources, research throughly before your trip. The most important thing is that you are out and enjoying the beautiful nature we get to have SAFELY!

Article written by Lions Bay SAR below:

“They should be charged.”

“They were stupid.”
“They were negligent.”
“Send them the bill.”

We hear some version of this after almost every rescue, and it deserves a conversation.

Search and Rescue in British Columbia does not charge people for rescue—and there are some very important reasons why.

First, people in genuine distress need to call for help early, without first calculating whether they can afford it.

As soon as money is involved, things get complicated. We have seen people visiting from the United States run from rescuers and try to hide in the bushes because they believed they would be charged for the rescue.

That serves no one. It puts the subject in greater danger and makes the rescue more difficult.

Second, Search and Rescue is treated as a public-safety service.

We generally do not send someone a bill when firefighters respond to a house fire because they left a pan on the stove. We do not invoice someone for a car crash because they made a driving error.

The same principle applies to SAR.

Third, encouraging people to call early ultimately protects rescuers.

Delayed calls frequently mean night operations, worsening weather, larger search areas and more complex terrain. All of these increase the exposure and risk to SAR members.

The person who calls early is usually easier—and safer—to rescue than the person who waits until they have no other choice.

Finally, it is almost impossible to fairly decide who “deserves” a bill.

Was someone reckless? Inexperienced? Unlucky? Did they receive a bad forecast? Suffer an unexpected injury? Make a simple human error?

Experienced mountaineers have accidents too.

Creating a system to investigate, assign blame and potentially litigate responsibility after every rescue would be enormously complicated—and would itself cost money.

None of this means SAR believes people have no responsibility.

Our approach is to separate rescue from blame:

Rescue first. Educate and prevent afterward.

SAR volunteers spend hundreds of hours speaking at schools, hiking and mountaineering clubs, giving public presentations, sharing lessons from rescues, and encouraging people to use resources such as AdventureSmart.

We would much rather help people make better decisions before their next trip than make them afraid to call us when something has already gone wrong.

So yes, sometimes people make poor decisions. Sometimes people are underprepared. Sometimes people make mistakes.

But when someone is in genuine distress, we want them to call.

Call early. Call before the situation gets worse. Let us come and help.

SL Mini Market Tote Strap length

Im not sure if this has been posted yet but I thought I shared! This creator Lizzi has a new video from today showing the SL mini market tote with the strap folded and clipped to make it a shoulder bag!

https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSx35BmX3/

I know lots of us (including me) has changed our mind on the bag due to the not adjustable straps. For me this still doesn’t make me want to purchase. What do you guys think?

She is 4’11 and she showed how it fits with a long strap + some items it can fit for sizing reference!!

Tenant Insurance

Im looking for the cheapest tenant insurance I can get.

I live on my own with very little properties/belongings to protect… My new rental requires me to get a tenant insurance and I really don’t want to pay more than $50 a month just to protect my things which barely holds any value.

I lived several years as a tenant without one and was fine…Any advice?

Edit: Im really not familiar with this, does the value of the place you live matters too? (ie I live in a house renting a unit but the house is quite expensive in the housing market)

Edit 2: I know a lot of people seem to emphasize on what a tenant insurance covers. I get that it covers when accidents happen as well not just personal belongings. However I would like to spend as little as possible that’s what I was trying to ask where do you guys get insurance from and for how much. Thanks for all the educational comments.
