The Systemic unfairness towards disabled people.

I want to vent a little about the unfairness those who are disabled and are on disability like myself experience. I’ll probably delete this later.

I have been with my bank for over a decade, have a decent credit score, and never had any real issues, so I decided that maybe it was time to apply for a credit card, not only for emergencies, but to build up some credit so that maybe one day I can apply for a loan with my partner. They are currently going to school with the assistance of DVR.

But because of my “debt to income” ratio, I was automatically denied. I have a consistent income from SSDI, I cannot work and if I even could, I’d lose that stable income. Yes, most of it goes toward rent and because of that, they would not earn enough money off of me and I’d be a risk of not being able to pay back which I argued against as that wasn’t exactly true.

Our system works only when keeping those with low income struggling. We aren’t allowed to build credit, have homes, nothing. If they cared, if our government truly cared, we’d be given enough to pay for rent, other bills including medical, and for us to live, not just scrape by. Granted, this should be the bare minimum given to everyone, but that’s not the world we live in.
