Okay to Reduce (Not Pause) Retirement for Vacation Savings?
For context, I am 26 and my current Retirement savings are at $65k. I also have a separate emergency fund of $18k which covers about 6 months of expenses in a HYSA. My savings rate including employer 457b, Roth IRA, and my pension contributions is about 32% of gross income right now.
I am considering pausing my Roth IRA contributions and reducing my total Retirement savings to about 24% and using the remaining savings to save $5k-$7k for a vacation to Japan with my partner. I will only pause Roth IRA contributions and resume in November after our trip. I have maxed out Roth contributions the past 2 years and have contributed $4,800 to my Roth for 2026 so far. I believe I will still be able to max it out since I have until April 2027.
Is it okay to pause my roth contributions like this? I do not want to take a massive hit to my future Retirement savings but I also want to live in the present as many people recommend without going into debt for travel.
