Is this marble plaque still somewhere in the city?
Have you seen this plaque?
It reads:
"THIS YERBA BUENA SCHOOL IS A MONUMENT TO THE KINDLY THOUGHT OF THE SCHOOL CHILDREN OF THE UNITED STATES FOR THE SCHOOL CHILDREN OF SAN FRANCISCO FOLLOWING THE DISASTER OF 1906"
The photo here depicts it inside the Marina Branch Library circa 1980. That branch was extensively renovated in 2007. The current employees there have no memory of the plaque.
The elderly man pictured fought to preserve the plaque and have it displayed. Mildly interesting/amusing article about that here: https://flic.kr/p/qnZEhe
I'm waiting on a reply from San Francisco History Center, but in the meantime... have you seen this plaque?
