dominant

The hate in Jordan is exhausting

I’m tired of men pretending to be holy while they beat their gay sons, shame their lesbian daughters, or hide their own secrets. I’m tired of religious or cultural values being used like weapons.

To everyone who spreads hate: You’re not righteous. You’re not moral. You’re just cruel. And one day, all this cruelty you justify with God and tradition will rot.

We are still here. And we have every right to be.

Being gay and disabled man in Jordan

I personally know two amazing gay individuals in Jordan who also live with disabilities. They are strong, kind, and full of life. Navigating both identities in a society that struggles to accept either one must be incredibly challenging. The stigma is likely doubled, and the obstacles greater. For those interested in this intersection, the Netflix series Special offers a heartfelt portrayal of a gay man with cerebral palsy. It’s a rare depiction that resonates deeply.

I’m not sorry for being angry

I’m angry because in Jordan, I still have to lie about who I am to my own extended family. I’m angry because mental health professionals here are still offering treatment for being gay. I’m angry because the safest thing I can do is stay silent and that’s not living (that’s just surviving).

We’re told to be patient. To wait for society to evolve. But how long are we supposed to wait? Another century? Another generation?

I’m not sorry for being angry. If you’re angry too, good. You should be. And no, you’re not alone.

Can long-distance relationships really work?

I’ve never experienced a long-distance relationship myself. The longest I’ve been away from my boyfriend was around 15 days and even that felt awful. I honestly don’t function the same without him around. I keep wondering how people actually make long-distance work.

Struggling with fitness in Amman

My partner really doesn’t enjoy going to gyms in Amman and I’ve tried going alone a few times but lost motivation quickly. I do a few minutes of home exercises but it is not enough. Most gyms here are full with hyper-masculine energy. And the decent mixed-gender gyms are way too expensive for me. Are there any gyms in Amman that feel comfortable?
