Me 31M Hispanic and my partner 36F Non Hispanic were talking and she was telling a story about high school - and openly said the words “and the beaners sit over there” (she was saying it to her mom describing her school at the time) and her mom had corrected her in the moment - my question pertains to now - she openly used the term “beaners” as she was telling me the story from back then and I was instantly offended - We’ve been dating for almost 4 years. This was a major shock for me to even hear her speak this way - and since that happened (two days ago) I keep contemplating if it’s a deal breaker for me but I don’t know what to do in the situation because in every other situation this is the person I consider my safe haven from the world. But for a European white skinned person to just blast out the beaner word directly in front of a Mexican? I’m needing some input here.
