23M .... Is "let's just talk and see where it goes" actually a better way to date?

23M

I've been thinking about how dating has become, especially when you're in your early 20s.

You can meet someone on an app, but there's immediately this pressure of:

"Are you looking for something serious?"

"What are you looking for?"

"Are we compatible?"

"Where is this going?"

And sometimes you haven't even had a normal conversation yet.

Personally, I'd rather meet someone, talk normally, become comfortable with each other, and then see whether there's actually a connection.

Maybe it becomes a friendship. Maybe you end up dating. Maybe you realise you're completely incompatible after three conversations.

All of those seem more natural to me than trying to decide whether someone is “relationship material” from a profile.

For people around my age:

How did you actually meet the person you ended up dating?

Dating apps, Reddit, college, work, mutual friends, or just completely by accident?
