I've seen so many alt people being bro trump/ racist towards alt people of color. It's so confusing, and weird especially seeing as how being alt is very political

I'm super super supper new to Buddhism and I don't want to do anything wrong with the altar, I've seen a few people say I don't necessarily need one but I want one to pray at. I know I'm not meant to have it facing the kitchen or near the bathroom(?) for reasons, someone said you shouldn't have it in your bedroom unless it has a curtain around it to close when I change and it's alright to have it in my closet if it has good light and is clean. Is it alright if I have it in my closet and just close it while I change then open it after? If not I can find a way to fit it in my room and fine a curtain!

(Also I cant have it anywhere else besides my room really because my family is Christian and I don't want to be rude with the altar being in the living room. Also sorry if my grammer is bad it's one in the morning and I'm very tired! Also sorry if this is a dumb question I really don't want to do anything wrong.)
