ZigBee Nightmare

Hi all,

Pretty new to home assistant etc. so please bear with me.

I bought Sonoff ZBM5 switches to replace all of my light switches (20+) and I have home assistant green with the ZBT-2 to control them. My problem is getting them working in home assistant. I'm using the ZHA integration and I have neutral wires at the switches but when I go to add them it's very intermittent. Most of the time it just doesn't find them. At first I thought it was a range problem so I used the closest switch which is in the same room and about 2 meters from the ZBT-2 (I also have the ZBT-2 on an extension lead so it's 1.5m from any routers etc.). That does seem to help as it does sometimes find them but If I do manage to get home assistant to find the switch it works maybe once then becomes "unavailable".

I then decided to try some Sonoff smart plugs and the first one I plugged in showed up on home assistant instantly without me even searching so I thought it must be the switches. However, when I tried the second smart plug I had the same issue with the switches and couldn't find it in home assistant.

I got very frustrated and bought a Sonoff ZigBee hub to see if that worked and it did! I know have 5 switches working perfectly with different automations etc. through the ewelink app.

Am I doing something wrong in home assistant, should I try 2MQTT instead of ZHA?

Thanks for your help

Switch live out the COM terminal?

Hi all,

Looking to replace some switches with smart switches and took the face plate off and found this as pictured... Is the permanent live coming into the 1-way terminal and being bridged to the other 1-way terminal and the COM terminals the switched live on both?

If the permanent live comes into the COM then surely operating one switch would do both?

Cheers!

RJ45 wall plate

Hi All,

Very new to home networking so sorry if I'm asking stupid questions!

I am having my house renovated and I have run cat 6 cables around the house and back to my study where I'm having a switch. My question is around what wall plate I should use. I was assuming I'd have to terminate each cable into a module and then use a patch lead into the switch but I saw this on Amazon....

So I'd have to add an RJ45 connector to the end of each cable and then plug it into the wall plate and use a patch lead to the switch as above.

Would this be ok or is there a better solution? (I have 15 cables in the study that need to go to a switch)

Many thanks!

What chemicals

Hi all,

Just moved into a new house and the drive and patio needs cleaning. I'm going to buy a decent pressure washer and cleaning head but I wondered what chemicals I should use on both the drive and the patio?

I've read about mixing a bit of bleach with water but the word bleach scares me! 🙈

Thanks for your help!

What am I doing wrong - ZBMINI

Hi all,

I am trying to add a ZBMINI to one of my light switches to make it smart but I'm not doing a very good job!

I have connected up the module and the existing switch works and the button on the ZBMINI also turns the light on and off. The problem comes when adding it to the eWeLink app or Home Assistant

I have a ZBT-2 and when I put the ZBMINI in pairing mode and search for it in Home Assistant (using the ZHA integration) it can't find the ZBMINI

Am I missing something?

Cheers,

Tom

Smart lighting

Hi all,

I am having my house renovated at the minute and I need to think about smart lighting!

I would like all of my lights controlled with smart switches and my original plan was to put deeper back boxes in and use the Sonoff WiFi modules. Whilst that is ok for timber walls, might be more difficult in solid walls.

Is there a better way or a better product to use?

Thanks for the help

Home Hub

Hi all,

I am currently renovating my house and have recently bought Home Assistant Green with ZigBee antena and I'm hoping to add a screen (hub) near the front of my house to control everything (garage doors, gates, lights, alarm, climate, music etc.)

I really like the look of the espcontrol dashboard and the P4 7 or 10 inch screens. Before I go ahead with this set up are there any other alternatives I should consider?

Thanks for your help

Smart Gates

Hi All,

I am about to have some electric gates installed at the front of my drive and the quote only includes a standard fob to open and close them. I thought I would be able to use a Sonoff or similar smart switch to open them via my phone / Google home and eventually integrate into Home Assistant so I can have a button on a hub near the front door to open and close them. However the switches I was thinking about are WiFi and would prefer hard wired, are there any hard wired options or any better ideas to control the gates?

Thanks for your help!

Hi all,

I am going through a big renovation at the minute and would like some advice on setting up my home. I am running 2 cat 6s to every room, a cat 6 to where I want my WAPs, one to the doorbell, one to where Ill have smart blinds and one for all the camera locations. Anything else I should be thinking about whilst walls are down etc.?

I currently use Google Home and hue bulbs but thinking of moving to Sonoff controllers behind the switches (or maybe new switches). Maybe a control panel at the front of the house? I know there are lots of products about but what's a good starter set up look like?

I've been reading about home assistant so I'll probably go with HA Green

Thanks for your help
