Injured Raccoon in the Driveway
A frustrating post to make.
I walked outside to my car this morning around 6am and saw the poor thing lying on my driveway, very injured. It didn't look to have use of it's hind legs or really any part of its lower body; likely paralyzed. Labored breathing. Flies had already started working on it. I imagine a car hit it in the middle of the night when it was just out looking through trash cans for a snack.
I called animal control every 30 minutes for about 4 hours before finally reaching someone on the other end, just to inform me the only officer for the township is working a different role for election day. So, I called 911 and officers came out about an hour later. In the meantime I tried to push a bowl of water over to it while trying to keep a relatively safe distance, but I just don't think it had any energy left. It kept slowly pulling itself into the shade of my car so I tried to give it a little misting of water to help keep it cool.
Officers showed up and picked it up with a snare pole. I won't share more details beyond that.
Ultimately, it died for nothing and suffered for hours in the morning sun and heat. There is no real point to this post other than to express my anger and feeling of worthlessness, and to apologize to the little thing. Feel free to delete if this violates any rules.
