Holbrook matte black o matter frame abrasion

Hey all!

I have purchased 2 matte black Holbrook frames 1-1.5 months ago.

While variable wearing them, and cleaning them regularly with soap and microfibre cloth during this time the paint started to wear off from both of the frames, at the end of the temples (behind my ears) and on the nose pad. And I can see the raw grey material underneath.

i have a 4 year old other Holbrook frame as well, same care, much more wear time and no issues with that one. Of course the matte black became a bit shiny on some places but that’s all.

no salt water or extreme wear, harsh chemicals, or extreme sweat were involved.

is this some batch issue? should I exchange them? How normal is this nowadays with Oakley O matter?

they are 100% genuine from a local Oakley shop.

1-1.5 month is such a short time to wear off the painting… while the the 4 year old frame is intact.

I need advice. When to use the different Prizm lenses?

For years I had only one Holbrook with Prizm P Black lenses.

It just worked. Looks good from outside and the view from the inside is nice. It is dark and neutral.

Now in the recent weeks I decided to try something new, and got myself first a pair of Prizm P Ruby lenses, and then two full sunglasses, one with Prizm P Daily, and one with Prizm P Tungsten lenses.

So now I have 3 sunglasses with 4 pair of lenses, and I am spoiled.

The thing is I like all 4 lenses. But all 4 are different.

I live in urban environment. I walk my dog every day in the morning for two hours in nature, otherwise when I go to work in the afternoon I use public transportation in the city, or walk to work.

At weekends in the summer I drive a lot around the country, 90% on highway to different open air venues, work on stage in the afternoon and in the FOH in the evening as sound engineer. Then drive home at night.(of course no sunglasses needed for that part)

Otherwise nothing sport special needs.

Of course there are other things as well like holidays at some lake or somethin, or hiking in some woods, but this is my day to day life most of the time when I use sunglasses.

I mean all of these lenses are really good and each can do these things alone, like the black did it for years, and I enjoy each.

My go to favourite for now most of the time is the Ruby, good balance of perceived visuals and style. 90% of the time I just want to pick that.

But I want to find real purpose for the other 3.

Could you give me some advice, general guideline, which one is the best for each scenario?

What kind of layers do delaminate from Oakley Prizm lenses from the inside when they have no AR coating on them? Prizm and Polarisation are within the lenses… so what actually delaminate/ peel?

When to replace the lenses? Holbrook Prizm Black Polarized

These lenses are 4-4.5 years old.

The left lens is a lot more clear.

The peeling and scratches are not affecting my vision at all when I wear the glasses.

I have a brand new pair of lenses at home. Should I replace them now or these are still good for this summer?

How often do you replace your lenses? How beat up is to beat up?

What is your experience with different lens base colours? My eyes have a hard time to adjust to bronze based lenses, like the Prism P Ruby.

In my whole life I always used grey based lenses in sunglasses.

This week I have purchased a pair of Prism P Ruby for my Holbrook (originally with Prizm P Black lenses).

The first impression was really impressive and different. I liked the pop of greens and the orange hue at first.

I liked the lenses especially while driving, it really makes the road textures more easy to read.

However after a week of use, I feel my eyes are getting tired way sooner.

I am having a hard time to getting used to the colour distortion and constant pop for everyday use. When I am walking my dog in nature or just moving around in the city on foot, the visuals are so different compared to what I am used to. People have distorted orange like skin tones, and in nature the greens are just overwhelming after an hour. Now I am hesitant if I should go back to the black lenses.

What is your experience with the different base colours? How long should I try? Or just swap the lenses every time I go for a drive, and swap back to the blacks for everyday use?
