Hi. I booked a hotel room in Budapest from May 28th to June 3rd, but unfortunately I can't go because I have to use crutches. Does anyone have any ideas what I could do with it?

I am getting transferred to budapest on intra-corporate transfer, need help with booking any hotel/hostel/apartment for two people for 1 month. Main concern is that the landlord or manager of the property willing to sign Accomodation receipt form. It is required for visa application as per my firm.

Hi everyone,

I’m moving to Budapest soon and I’m trying to decide between two apartments, and I’d love to hear opinions from people who actually live there.

One option is around Székely Bertalan utca 14 in District VI, near Kodály Körönd / Andrássy / Városliget. The area feels elegant, calm, residential and safe, with beautiful buildings and good connections, but not extremely lively at night.

The other one is more in the heart of District VII, around the Jewish Quarter area.

I’m a sociable person and I do enjoy nightlife, bars, cafés, meeting people, etc., but not in a “party every day” kind of way. More like enjoying being in a lively city with things happening around me.

My concern is:
- if I choose the quieter VI option, maybe I’ll feel too disconnected from the social side of Budapest and end up staying home too much.
- but at the same time, I’m worried the VII option could become exhausting long term because of noise, tourists and constant chaos.

From what I’ve seen:
- VI seems more elegant, calmer, residential and better for daily quality of life.
- VII seems more energetic, social and exciting, especially as someone new to the city.

For people who know Budapest well:
Do you think living in a calmer part of VI still feels “connected” to the city/social life?
Or does living in VII make a big difference for actually experiencing Budapest and meeting people?

Would really appreciate honest opinions, especially from expats or people in their 20s/30s 🙂

Akkora tomeg van h van aki 4 ora alatt jutott be sokan haza is mentek. A sima sorszamhoz is konkretan sorszamot kell huzni kulon. Szoval dupla varakozas van, ami pozitiv, hogy vizet adnak, de igy is sokan megviseltek. A legnagyobb baj az, hogy az ablakoknak csak kb a fele van nyitva sokkal tobb ugyintezo kellene.

Just got back from visiting Budapest for the first time and honestly I had a really good time there. The city is amazing visually, public transport was great, food was good, people were nice when I had to ask something, etc. Definitely one of my favorite cities I’ve visited in Europe so far.

But there was one thing that genuinely confused me a bit during the trip. Before coming I was actually kind of excited to hear Hungarian in real life because it’s such a unique language and doesn’t sound like anything around it. But somehow during almost the entire week I was there I barely heard it at all.

In the center I expected mostly tourists obviously, but even when I went out into more residential-looking areas (like by the stadium), on trams, supermarkets, random neighborhoods, cafes, shopping centers like Primark etc, I mostly kept hearing German, English and clearly Slavic languages (maybe Slovak or Ukrainian?). At one point I started actively paying attention because it felt weird that I was in Hungary but almost never hearing Hungarian around me.

So now I’m genuinely curious: are there districts/neighborhoods in Budapest where people still mainly speak Hungarian?

Right now my auditory memory of Budapest is like 35% German, 40% English and 20% aggressive Slavic consonants + maybe some French or Romanian. Heard Hungarian maybe twice a day.

Sziasztok! 9-kor érkeztem a munkahelyemre, utcán parkolok és megbüntettek reggel 9:36-kor, amit most vettem észre. 9:50-kor elindítottam a parkolást, de nyilván abban a 20 percben nem volt rajta...

A piros csomagot nem vettem le, kell fizetnem még a parkolás köteles időszakban (18:00-ig) vagy ma már nem kapok 2. csomagot?

A párommal külföldről utazunk haza, és péntektől vasárnapig (kb. 2,5-3 napra) szeretnénk autót bérelni Budapestről. Főleg Balatonra és Győrbe mennénk, szóval nem városi használat lenne.

Most nézzük a MOL Limo-t, illetve a klasszikus autóbérlőket is, mint pl. Sixt, Avis stb.
Szerintetek melyik a legjobb ár-érték arányban egy ilyen rövid hétvégi útra? Van esetleg saját tapasztalatotok vagy valami, amire érdemes figyelni?

Ott van dolgom ma, ilyenkor szeretek enni vissafele egy gyrost, van itt valami normális, ahol van borjű (vagy bármilyen négylábú) gyros? Utoljára sajnos kb 20 éve voltam itt gyrosozni a mammutbn, de az ahogy látom már megszűnt, ami ott volt, amit pedig gyors googlemaps alapján találtam, ott nincs négylábú.

I'll be spending a couple days in Budapest soon and as a huge fan of both Béla Tarr and László Krasznahorkai, I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations on where I could hope to find some souvenirs related to them. Books and DVDs are obviously the first thing that comes to mind, but would love to posters, prints, apparel, etc.

Would also love to hear any recommendations on things to do as a fan of both artists. I know their work isn't necessarily very Budapest-heavy, but I figured it'd be worth asking here.

Tudnátok ajánlani a budai oldalon gyerekbarát, kerthelyiséges éttermet?
Mivel nem pokolkutyák a gyerekek, így a gyerekbarát másodlagos kérdés, inkább a nagy kerthelyiség, árnyat adó fák és az sem baj, ha kicsit szellősebben vannak az asztalok.

A vásárcsarnokokon kívül tudtok olyan helyet Budapesten ahol jó savanyúságot lehet venni?

A nagy vásárcsarnokban elég jók vannak, csak az a baj, hogy délután már nincsenek nyitva, és mivel dolgozom, nem tudom beszerezni a szükséges savanyúság adagom. (Teljesen ráfüggtem a savanyúságra.) Olyan helyre lenne szükségem, ami délután 5 után is nyitva van, nem tudom létezik-e ilyen.

Különösen a kisdinnyékre vagyok ráfüggve és megbolondulok, hogy nincs kisdinnyém itthon és nem tudok venni mert mire odaérek nincs nyitva !!!!!!!!!!!! És igen, tudom MeNj HéTvéGéN vagy KeLj fEL KoRáN éS meNj el MuNkA eLőTt. Nem ! Ha nagyon szükségem van a kisdinnyére, képes vagyok ezekre, de kíváncsi lennék, hogy van-e esetleg olyan savanyúságos hely ami egész nap nyitva van.
