Prefer Bifocals

So, I’ve had my new progressives for about 3 weeks now. Before that, I’ve been wearing lined bifocals for about a year. I wanted to give progressives a try because I think the line in the bifocals does look a bit old person-ish. But I’m finding I just can’t get used to the progressives. I mean, the progressives are *okay.* When I find the sweet spot, they’re great. But when I’m driving or when I’m teaching class, I find the swimmy periphery uncomfortable. I need to be able to quickly scan my class and see my students in focus. It just takes a moment or two too long to get them in focus with the progressives. In dynamic environments (driving, teaching, walking across campus with lots of other people walking around me), the progressives just feel so blurry. I know everyone says to give it a few weeks. And I genuinely have. But the periphery never comes into focus without me moving my whole head and searching for the sweet spot. I guess I’m just looking for reassurance that it’s okay to prefer lined bifocals and that progressives, while not terrible, really do make the peripheral vision blurry until you turn your head to focus.

Hill Country Camps Getting Licensed

Several Hill Country camps have in recent days been fully licensed by DSHS for the 2026 season. Among them are two that have always been two of the very safest: Waldemar and Kickapoo Kamp. So they are no surprise. Vista Camps (Rio Vista and Sierra Vista) were also fully licensed as of last week. What other Hill Country camps have been licensed for 2026?

I’m trying to catch up from this morning. The Eastlands are still testifying. But in real life, it’s 7:25 p.m. Is the hearing still going on live right now?

I am struck by the way each of the Eastlands present themselves. Mary Liz has a hardened and almost mean countenance. Her tone of voice is cold, callous, and harsh. Edward is gentler, but he is still unable to acknowledge his failures. Britt comes across as strategic and conniving. Richard is contrite but ineffective. I am stunned that Tweety is not testifying, nor is Catie.
