Transitioning from Road Surfacing Plant to Underground Mining

Some details:

-I have a Cert III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology - at my company we primarily work on asphalt pavers, milling machines, rollers etc, but have a few trucks so I was enrolled in this course instead of a Plant Mechanic course. I am fully across all the technical aspects of plant but have only just finished my Certificate.

-I’ve also done some Cert II’s in Auto elec. and fab/welding as well as some hydraulics short courses. I’ve got all the required tickets - Confined spaces, Heights, First aid, gas, plant operating tickets etc. Too many to name.

-I’m Sydney based and the nearest mines are up the Blue Mountains and near Singleton/Maitland but I assume FIFO would be an option? But I have no experience in mining in any capacity, no experience on drills, jumbos, boggers etc.

How do I make the transition to underground mining from my current role? Am I a good fit and is there anything else I can do? I can’t relocate from Sydney either.

Any underground plant mechanics here?

How did you get into underground mining? What was your path like, from apprenticeship to underground?

I’m wanting to transition into underground from road surfacing plant (pavers, profilers, rollers etc) but I don’t think employers are going to want to fly me out to a mine just to have to teach me on equipment and i’m preferring not to move away from my capital city - do I have any options?
