International fitter pay

Has anyone got any idea how much a fitter or auto sparky makes working in an international mine site - for an Aussie company.

Underground or surface mine site. Curious to know whether or not it would be worth looking into.

Thanks very much

How much notice should my employer give me before changing my roster?

I have a full time position with a regular 2/2 roster but my employer sometimes makes some adjustments to it like changing to a 8/6 or a 2/1. They try to do it as much as possible in advance but we don't have our word to say. Also they warned us the roster they give us can be subject to changes. Therefore I'm never sure of where I'll be in the next months.

If they want to make changes to the roster, should they give me a notice?

Could I ask for more rest in lieu if my roster changes from a 2/2 to a 2/1?

Mining Applications/Software

Hey Guys,

I've been looking to develop something that is needed in the mining industry with severe demand. I'm still a student so it's kind of hard to gauge what's needed and what's not as I don't really have experience so I just thought I'd come here and see. If there is something you've been thinking would be very useful but haven't got to actually thinking about it I think it would be fun to put your ideas into use.

Kind Regards

Underground diamond driller offsider or surface diamond driller offsider?

I’ve got the choice between the two.

I was leaning towards underground, but the recruiter said, “Are you sure?” and told me it’s a lot tougher than surface.

For anyone who’s done both, which would you choose and why?

Best PPE for Women

I’ve always worn company PPE but I’m contracting now and need to have my own. I’m usually office based but do spend time in pits, workshops, refineries…

What are the best comfy pants? Im a size 16/18.

Best hoody/jacket - bonus if it’s water proof

Any other PPE related thoughts welcome

Trying to find jobs with longer roster 2:2 / 3:3

I am a geologist with around 5 yrs of experience from South East Asia, trying to get into FIFO mining under 482 visa. I am not planning to relocate to Australia with my wife, cost wise it is better for me to fly in and out from my home country. Extra info, i am super okay with working at remote places.

I've been trying to apply jobs on Seek, Indeed and even emailed / dropped my cv to recruitment companies. Theres very small fraction of jobs that offers long rosters 2:2, 3:3 or longer , most of the job offers 8:7 roster.

My question is, will it be possible for me to land a job with longer roster? If yes, can anyone suggest on where to apply? Thank you

What's the best roster you've ever worked, and would you go back to it?

My first gig in the Pilbara was a mandatory two weeks on one week off roster. Looking back I have no idea how I survived the exhaustion of those back-to-back night shifts, but the extra cash at the time was hard to turn down

Do I have a chance in working as a FIFO Engineer?

Hi everyone,

I have recently been thinking of trying to get into FIFO and I am just looking for advice if its possible given my circumstances. Please be frank if I really have a chance or not.

I am a Mechanical Engineering Graduate here in the Philippines, I got my engineering license in 2024 and I am working as a Maintenance Engineer in a local Mining Company which specializes in Gold & Silver production ever since. I have handled & maintained most of the milling equipment, I have also worked as a Mechanical Engineer in the same Mine Site specializing in Dewatering Equipment.

I was encouraged by my former senior to apply overseas especially in Australia. (He is an engineer also in Australia working the same field but he can't help me get into a job because of reasons I don't know) Do you guys think that I have a chance of getting a role as an engineer in FIFO with my experience level? If not, what would be a general advice you can tell me so that I can work my way into actually landing a FIFO Engineering Job?

Thank you.

Where to start?

30M looking into starting a new career in the mini g industry but have no idea where to start. I have a heavy background in IT. Are there FIFO IT roles available? Can’t find any online. What role do you think someone with strong technical and problem solving skills would be drawn to. I am also no stranger to long days and hard physical labour. Honestly would do anything but scrubbing toilets. I’m stuck in my career, need a drastic change.

Thank you guys and gals.

Apologies for the frantic post, 1/3 life crisis currently.

Feedback on my FIFO Mining resume Australia - Mechanic Trade Assistant / ERT

Hey there, I would love if you could provide me feedback on my resume. I love learning how things work, and I was studying mechanical engineering in Argentina before I dropped out (Not book smart yet..). But I would love getting to work in mines as an assistant to the actual mechanics, I am sure I would learn a lot. I have basic mechanical and electric aptitude, but no proven experience. Also, I would love to volunteer for the Emergency Response Team on site.

Thanks, feel free to criticise (As long as it is a constructive criticism).

Disclaimer: I built my resume based on AI suggestions, but all the information is real, no invented experience or anything like that

Pre medical and medication declaration

Hi,

Just did a medical for my first fifo job(shutdown fitter), got through all of it okay, except the medication part.
I declared that I take an anti depressant and pregabalin for anxiety.

The doctor is wanting a letter from my psychiatrist wanting confirmation that the pregabalin is for anxiety and not for a chronic pain condition.

I am worried that this will be an automatic failure of the assessment and I will not get the job.
Has anybody been in a similar circumstance?

Cheers.

Just interviewed for BHP Technology Operations Specialist Trainee role..nervous about role

Hey everyone, just had my first interview with BHP for the Technology Operations Specialist Trainee role. Recruiter was positive so hopefully progressing to next stage.
Coming from a completely non-tech background. A few things I'm genuinely anxious about and would love honest answers:
Math — I'm terrible at it. Is there actually any math involved in the day to day work, the Certificate IV IT, or the traineeship overall? Both streams — Control Systems and Platforms & Networks?
Cisco — interviewer mentioned it. I've heard Cisco certs are hard and involve math. Is this part of the traineeship or does it come much later?
Day to day reality — what does a typical day actually look like in both streams as a trainee? What should I expect in the first few months?
7/7 roster — how do you actually find the lifestyle? The night/day transitions, being away from home?
General — what do you wish you knew before starting? Any advice for someone with zero tech background?
Honest answers appreciated — even the hard ones. Rather know now than be surprised. Thanks 🙏

Barrow Island medical turnaround time?

Hi all,

I’m currently in the pipeline for a FIFO role on Barrow Island and recently completed my full medical and DAS. I’ve been told to expect around a two-week turnaround for processing and sign-off.

Just wondering if that lines up with others’ experiences or if timelines can vary a bit.

Jumbo operator timeline

G'day all,

Anyone got a true indication of the time line to get to Jumbo operator starting at nipper all the way through to jumbo?

I've seen online 3-5years but also seen 10years+ in many places.

Cheers
