WnK, Concept Movie and Swan Lake.
Today I thought about how during the time after the Concept Movie was released people theorized that the plot would be based in Swan Lake.
For those who don't know Swan Lake's story, it goes this way: The prince Sigfrido goes to hunt swams as a way to clear his mind from the way his mother is pushing him to choose a girl to marry with in the celebration of his 21th birthday, which will take place next night. He finds one in a lake but when he's about to shoot it, the swan turns into a pretty girl. She's the princess Odette. She, together with other girls were cursed by the evil wizard Rothbart. The spell turned her and the others into Swams and only during night in that lake they can recover her human form. To break the spell someone that has never loved before must swear eternal love to Odette. Sigfrido and Odette fell in love with each other, so, to avoid the spell to be broken Rothbart takes her daugther Odile, who has taken Odette's form with magic, to Sigfrido's party with the intention of fool him. The trap works, Sigfrido swears love forever Odile thinking she's Odette and when he finds the true is too late. At the end, both lovers choose to die together to be with each other in the other life and release the other girls that were under the same curse.
If you think about it, the Odette-Odile situation is something that could fit what we've saw so far about the fake Homura in the trailers of WnK, and the character called "Wasu" in the Concept Movie (which I think are the same and I talked about that here).
If the movie really follows the structue of Swam Lake (the Odette-Odile situation), I think it could go this way: Madoka is Sigfrido, Homura is Odette and Fakemura/Wasu is Odile. Wasu is trying to get closer with Madoka by faking to be Homura, but not in the same way Odile did. Instead of faking to be Homura (the person), Wasu is faking to be the one who Homura was. Wasu is trying to make Madoka think she was the magical girl who protected her in the past before her memories were stolen indtead of Homura, trying to took Homura's role for herself while making see Homura as the enemy. Which honestly, is a super easy task since Homura herself is trying to keep all the truth hidden from Madoka while playing the role of big bad devil. Hell, since she's the one making contracts now and Kyubey is currently her servant/slave, it would be laughtfully simple make it look like Homura was the one behind all the shit Kyubey did in the original world, forcing Kyubey's role in the original series into Homura under a "she's your enemy" narrative. And while the notes of the Concept Movie say that she ended getting Homura and Madoka together with her actions... it seems tthat at some point she will manage to get Madoka fall into some sort of trap since the HQ is asking Homura to save Madoka and we hear a scream of pain that people said belonds to Aoi Yuki.
But, What is Wasu's goal? Aside from the fact that she seems to aim to kill Homura, I think she wants to restore the LoC for her own agenda. If she's actually Walpurgis (or more like the Witch that was her core), maybe she's trying to restore Madokami (the LoC) to absorb her and all the souls of Magical Girs/Witches she took away (that we know thanks to the production notes of Rebellion, are merged with her) to have her own apotheosis and turn into some sort of "Ultimate Walpurgis".
Homura's new Magical Girl system could be the way she's trying to release Madoka from her fate.
So, in the summary of Walpurgis no Kaiten's plot they mentioned that Homura is the one contracting Magical Girls now (also show in the first trailer). Taking away that role from Kyubey in a new system of her own creation, in which Magical Girls don't have Soul Gems anymore.
That was know for a time, but today it suddenly hit me. The only time were the LoC can interact with Magical Girls is the moment when their Soul Gems are about to turn into Grief Seeds. The only way the LoC can interact with Magical Girls is absorbing the corruption of their Soul Gems to taking away their souls after. Then, What would happend if a Magical Girl have no Soul Gem? Exactly, the LoC can't interact with that Magical Girl in any point or in any way. And beyond that, if a Magical Girl has no Soul Gem to turn into Grief Seed, in theory, she shouldn't be able to turn into a Witch to begin with (even if the LoC isn't interfering).
So, What would happen if no Magical Girl in the universe have a Soul Gem?... The LoC becomes obsolete and isn't needed anymore. And since is no longer needed, Madoka doesn't have to take that role of martyr again.
That's Homura's goal with implementing is new system. Create a future were the LoC has no reason to keep existing (a future were the only Magical Girls in the universe are this new generation without Soul Gems) and Madoka can be free.
Of course, the Magical Girls of the first generation (the Incubator/Soul Gem generation) still exist, but all Homura has to do is wait until the last one of them is death. After some hundreds of years (at most), the only Magical Girls remaining should be the ones from the new generation (the Lizard Phone/No Soul Gem generation). And before someone says that Magical Girls can life forever if they clean their gems, in practice their life expectancy is not very high because they're still child soldiers that fight against monsters that can kill them.
The only problem is that for this to work Homura will need to became the one dooming herlself to an eternity of isolation instead of Madoka (she's the one who will be making the contracts after all), and there's no way Madoka is gonna allow that. That's probably one of the things Madoka is gonna talk with her at the end of the movie, that she's not gonna accept any ending in which Homura isn't happy.
About the identity of the other Homura
For a while we've know that in Walpurgis no Kaiten there's more than one Homura. In this post I'm gonna talk about all info we know until now about the other Homura (who I'm gonna call Fakemura from this point) to try to figure who she is and what could be her role in the movie.
1- She and Homura are enemies
In this poster we can see how Fakemura and Homura are confronting each other, showing that despite sharing appearance they aren't in the same team. But, If she isn't with Homura, Which side is she in?
2 - She seems to be allied with Selema and Xiang
Like you can see in this post, Fakemura uses the same version of Mitakihara's school uniform than Selema and Xiang uses, has the same white pupils than them, and has in the nail the same balck soul gem mark.
The fact that she shares all those traits with them can't be a coincidence, and clearly implies that she's the same than them, a magical girl that cames from the LoC. It also implies that she's working together with Selema and Xiang.
With this, I think we can discard the theory of Fakemura being a Clara Doll or a fragment of Homura's powers, because there's no way a existence that cames from Homura (even more if has origins in her devil side) would side with people that wants to bring back Madoka to the LoC.
Which leads to the next point.
3 - She and OG Homura are the only Homuras in WnK
There is no other Homura than OG Homura and Fakemura in the movie. Through the trailers, we saw 5 variations of Homura: ribbon Homura, magical girl Homura, devil Homura, gothic loli Homura and Fakemura. People thought it would be a lot of Homura's in the movie, but now, I think we can say that all the Homuras aside of Fakemura are the same one.
We can confirm that magical girl and devil are the same because in the latest trailer magical girl refers herself as the devil and in this poster she has red devil eyes (and these aren't the same as Fakemura's ones because these don't have her white pupils). In the same way, we can confirm that ribbon is the same that magical girl because in this pic they used both variants to refer the same Homura. Not to mention both versions were used for varations of the same scene in two different trailers. About gothic loli, she's answering someone through a phone if she's willing to fight the curses of the world. That's most likely is her talking with a girl through the "lizard phone" to make a contract, as it was stated in the summary of the plot of the movie that Homura's the one making the contracts now. Which means that gothic loli is devil too.
So, ribbon = devil = magical girl = gothic loli = OG Homura.
With all that said, Who is Fakemura then?
4- Wasu
In the concept movie, for a brief moment they show a fragment of the script for Rebellion's sequel (now know as Walpurgis no Kaiten). In that fragment is talked about how the plot of the movie would focus in the relationship amoung three characters: Madoka, Homura and Wasu.
Wasu is someone who looks very similar to Homura, to the point were Madoka thought she was Homura after cutting her hair when she first meet Wasu. She's trying to get closer to Madoka. Her personality is described as cheerful, but Madoka feels that she's pushing herself too hard when she interacts with her and notices that her red eyes are hollow when she looks at her (implying all it's a act).
Homura tries to keep Wasu far from Madoka. Both hate each other. Homura calls Wasu a liar, and Wasu's goal is to kill Homura.
If you notice, everything said about Wasu fits with what is show about Fakemura in the trailers. The only difference is that Fakemura doesn't have short hair, but that could be something they changed like the OG outfits of Xiang and Selema. So, at this point I think the most likely outcome is that Fakemura is Wasu (and I'm gonna call her Wasu from this point).
But then, Who is Wasu? Why she looks so much like Homura?
5 - Walpurgisnacht
In one of the trailers there's this part were we can see that Wasu's umbrella somewhat resembles Walpurgis, which could suggest a conection with it. And while that's so little evidence, there's not much else pointing to other characters and someone has to be related with Walpurgis in some sort of way if Walpurgis is so important in the film. So, for now at least I would go with Wasu. Wasu is likely one of the magical girls whose witch was part of the ones that fused to form Walpurgisnacht. Maybe her witch was the core of Walpurgis even.
About why she looks like Homura, I think that's because she's her ancestor. A magical girl from the past which shares a lineage with Homura. That leads to the final point in this post.
6 - Homura's reaction
I think in this scene is gonna be revealed to Homura that Walpurgisnacht appearances through the years (which we know is a topic they're gonna touch) were'nt random. All is time she was showing itself in places were someone related to one of the witches that formed her was present, attracted by the shared bloodline. Therefore, her apparition in Matakihara was because Homura (a relative of Wasu) was there. Which means (from Homura's perspective) that Madoka's death in the very first timeline always was Homura's fault all this time. That realization is why she looks so disturbed.
Well, that's all. I know point's 5 and 6 have not as much ground to stand, but I'm pretty confident about points 1 -4. I have plans for make a similar post for Megane-chan (the unnamed magical girl), but we'll see.
I realized they changed some scenes showed in the past trailers
In the new trailer they show the same scene of Homura in the throne than the one in the very first trailer, but now she isn't wearing her magical girl outfit.
And they also show a scene of Choka and Selma transforming that was part of a past trailer too, but their "aura" it's different in that one.
Are these the last minute changes they delayed the movie for?... Or they're editing scenes to hide info about what's happening in the movie?
Well, either way we'll know in 2 months.
