What did I do wrong with miso soup?

I made miso soup for the first time today for lunch and I’m wondering if I used too much miso paste. I’m kind of embarrassed to post how I made it because I couldn’t find a recipe with measurements so I don’t know what I’m doing and just tried my best uneducated guess. I liked it but it was a little salty/strong, sorry not sure how to describe it.

Here is what I did:
5 cups water with one packet of bonito soup stock powder.(HonDashi) I added it to simmering water and then added soft tofu. I let that warm up then turned the heat off and added 5 Tbs red miso paste (through a strainer) to the water. The label said it doesn’t have any dashi in it but did I over do the amount of miso? It was nice but I feel like I added too much of something. My kids all liked it but said the same thing, there was to much of something in it.

Thanks for your help.
