So I found the instrument used for DDLC's "hover" and "select" SFXs

I was recently looking for some instruments in reFX Nexus 2, and I stumbled upon the exact instrument Dan seems to have used for both the "hover.ogg" and "select.ogg" sound effects used in DDLC!

The instrument is "Hands Up Bells 4", part of Nexus's default Plucked selection. For both of these sound effects, the Delay and Reverb seem to be toggled off.

For "hover," the only note played is a single G6.

For "select," the sound is comprised of a G6 and a C7. Both of these notes are held for a slightly longer duration than "hover's" G6 is held for.

I haven't figured out the specifics of EXACTLY how long each note is held for in both of these sound effects, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone document this information. So for anyone who would find this useful, here ya go!

[SNAFU Too!] Question for you guys!

I'm currently working on revising every scene from the original SNAFU story for our expansion's alpha release, and I have one very big thing to ask you guys:

Would anyone here be upset if I cut down the number of times the MC says "That a fact?" throughout the original story?

[SNAFU Too!] How the Summertime Arc will work with the Original Arc

Hello again, everyone! I've just locked in all the story beats for the first four days of SNAFU Too's new Summertime Arc. My next goal will be finalizing the story beats for the rest of the first week!

I decided to make a Progress Sheet that's designed to be extremely similar to the one GuyBread used to track the original mod's progress. Going forward, I'll do my best to provide progress updates with this spreadsheet as a reference point, since there's a BUNCH of planning required to make this arc work seamlessly with the Original Arc.

How much planning is required, exactly? Well, since some of it isn't explained in the spreadsheet yet, I'll cover everything as simply as possible:

  • The Date and Friendship Routes from the Original Arc can't just end once the Summertime Arc begins. This means we have to create worthwhile extensions for all five of the original Date and Friendship Routes.
    • The work doesn't stop with new Date and Friendship Route scenes, though! I'm making one of my biggest goals from the get-go to keep the new content as fresh as possible. No overly repetitive Filler Scenes! Each repeated decision will have 10 or more Filler Scenes, including some variants that will be chosen if the character you're hanging out with is your partner.
  • As the Progress Sheet explains, Natsuki and Rikka will have completely new Routes that can be accessed once the Summertime Arc begins. I wanted to make sure that at least two characters from the Original Arc could have accessible Date Routes if you decide to skip out on dating during the alpha release (more about this detail in a few moments!). This requires us to write new Base, Date, and Friendship Routes for both girls.
    • This means even more Filler Scenes to choose from depending on when you started dating Natsuki or Rikka!
  • I announced yesterday that there will be two new Date Routes available during the Summertime Arc. Don't worry, these new routes are NOT the new stuff for Natsuki and Rikka! But they do require us to write another pair of Base, Date, and Friendship Routes for the new arc.
    • You guessed it: extra Filler Scenes!
  • In addition to all of the Route-related scenes, we also have to take different non-route actions in mind. What if MC's Athleticism isn't at Rank Five by the time a certain Track Team event happens? What if MC's Intelligence is above Rank Three by the time a certain unexpected event happens? All three of MC's stats have to be taken into account, and we have to make multiple variants of specific scenes that are impacted by those stats... sometimes up to five different "Stat-Based Variants"!
  • And on top of those Stat-Based Variants, what about the times when MC chooses how to spend part of the day? We need different scenes for those choices, too!

With all of this in mind... That's at least 20 new Routes, at least 90 new Filler Scenes, and many, many Stat-Based Variants! None of this includes the main story events that don't change based on stats or what route you're on. For the first four days alone, there will be at least 12 scenes that go mostly or entirely unchanged, regardless of stats or routes.

There's a LOT of work to be done just to meet the bare minimum of what a SNAFU expansion deserves. And even after these tasks, we need to polish everything many times over to ensure the Summertime Arc is the absolute best it can be for you guys.

Now, to quickly elaborate on that detail I mentioned earlier in this post... I want to explain how skipping out on dating in the Original Arc will work:

  • Any time you finish a character's final Friendship Route scene, you'll have an option to keep your relationship with them limited to friendship. This is essential if you want to experience any of the Summertime Arc's new Date Routes!
  • Keep in mind that the extended Date Routes for Sayori, Yuri and Monika will only be available if you began dating one of them during the Original Arc.
  • As previously mentioned, you will have the opportunity to begin dating Natsuki or Rikka during the Summertime Arc if you skipped out on dating someone previously.
  • And of course, the two brand-new Date Routes will be completely exclusive to the Summertime Arc.

I think it might be good to wrap up today's post with details that many of you will be happy to hear:

  • When you boot up the alpha release of SNAFU Too! for the first time, you'll be asked if you've completed the original mod before. From there, you'll be able to adjust some settings to tell the game whose Date Route you were on, whose Friendship Routes you completed, and whose Base Routes you completed. This might sound like a LOT of information that'll be shoved in your face, but all of these settings will be presented to you in a way that's as easy to understand as possible!
  • We don't want returning players to feel discouraged to check out the new content, since the Original Arc is very long on its own. If you've played the original SNAFU mod before (which I would absolutely recommend doing before trying out Too!), we want you to have the choice to get right into the new stuff!

That's probably enough from me today! I'll do my best to provide updates as I see fit, but please don't expect a consistent schedule for new information.

Thank you for reading, I hope you have a great rest of your day!

My Doki Doki SNAFU Too! Progress Update - Summertime Arc!

Hello, everyone! Before I get into all of my news for y'all, the first image attached is the FINALIZED logo for our expansion! I'm quite happy with how it came out. Anyways, to the big points now:

I want to use this Progress Update to announce something set to be included at the end of My Doki Doki SNAFU Too's alpha release (which will primarily focus on extra filler scenes for free play, new UI, extra music tracks, and other Quality of Life improvements... as well as one extra thing that I'll get to in a few moments):

After the main story and subsequent final day of the "Original Arc," you'll be able to play through the first in-game week of the upcoming "Summertime Arc"!

The intro to the Summertime Arc will likely take somewhere between 2-3 hours to get through during a casual playthrough. This includes all featured extensions to the romance routes and any new moments with multiple choices. I've been blocking out the story for the Summertime Arc for nearly a year, and I'm finally happy with how things are looking.

It's been a long time since I've given y'all any big new details regarding the expansion, so here's a few to make up for the already-long development time:

  • The Summertime Arc will take some inspiration from My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU, but expect the story to be almost fully original.
  • One of my biggest focuses has been making a new story arc that can reasonably explore new interactions between the Literature Club and the Track Team.
    • In addition, the Track Team will not be nearly as optional as it was in the Original Arc. Expect to properly meet a couple of the team's members for the first time.
  • Kiba will return.
    • I'm still not sure how much he'll be around during the Summertime Arc, but I'm doing my best to give some love to the Kiba appreciators out there.
  • Although you likely won't see this during the first week, the Summertime Arc will have a big focus on worldbuilding for the high school (yes, during the Summertime Arc). You'll get to see more of the clubs featured there, meet a couple new teachers/administrators, stuff like that!
  • I'll round off this list with that one extra thing planned for the alpha release.
    • In the original mod, there were five romance routes - one for each member of the Literature Club, and one for Rikka.
    • The expansion will feature two new romance routes, both accessible starting from the Summertime Arc.
    • While the team works on the additional filler scenes, I'll be making some revisions to various choices in the Original Arc that ensure it's always 100% possible to skip out on taking one of its five romance routes if so desired. This will be implemented in a way that requires you to deliberately make certain choices to hold off on romancing one of the girls during the Original Arc. (There will be indicators in the alpha release to efficiently convey information regarding who you can and cannot romance in each Arc.)

That's probably a good place to stop with the details. The last thing I want to do is promise a bunch of stuff now only to take another decade to finish this thing with my team.

We're still working hard, and we'll be in full gear as our availabilities open up during our own summer breaks! Apologies for taking so long on just the first release of this expansion, we're grateful for the insane amount of patience y'all have had already. I'd give you guys a target window for the alpha release, but again, don't wanna promise more than I should (especially since we originally planned on just the first day of the Summertime Arc being included; I changed the plan VERY recently as a "thank you" for the patience).

Thank you for reading! I hope you have a great rest of your day.
