Late walker

Hi everyone!

My 16 month son was diagnosed with low muscle tone yesterday, due to issues with walking. I am completely on board with getting him PT and ankle braces but have some concerns.

He held his head up early, sat early, crawled at 6 months, and was standing at 8 months. Has anyone else’s child had similar symptoms and later onset of motor issues?

His only gross motor concern is extremely slow progress with walking. He can take a few steps but his endurance is poor and he prefers crawling.

To be brief, I’m almost done with my 2nd year of a 3 year online program.

I’m the mother to a one year old son and this semester has been the hardest of my educational career. Since the end of January, he’s been sick seven times (he’s sick again now, since last Monday).

I am married but my husband is not exactly pro-active around the house. He helps when asked but he doesn’t volunteer to do things or go the extra mile.

I managed to finish all of my internship hours at the last minute and get an excellent final evaluation in fieldwork. Unfortunately, I was so behind with my research papers I wasn’t able to finish all of them. I’ve gotten As on all the assignments I’ve completed, but the issue is really just finding the time to get them done. I also work part time and as of early March, have had no car because it broke down and Hyundai takes their sweet time approving warranty repairs. My brother also had serious mental health issues this winter.

The final day of the semester was May 3rd, and I still have research papers to do. I basically begged my professor for an incomplete; I don’t know what else to do at this point. My professors were made aware early on that I was struggling with my son being ill frequently.

I am petrified of being dismissed from this program and feel so stupid right now. I’m very competent in direct practice but I just can’t get it together with school and it’s disheartening.
