Do Boston-nyc in one day, or keep U-Haul overnight and leave early next day?

I’m moving from Boston to queens (Saturday Aug 1st) and made the bold choice to rent a U-Haul and just hire movers to load/unload in each city to save money. My issue comes with driving from Boston to Queens: I would take I-95 from Brighton at about 11-12pm at the latest, as the Boston movers time slot is 9-10, with 2 hours moving time (although last time they took far less than that. I’m just thinking worst case scenario they finish at 12). The route is essentially I-95 from Brighton to NYC then I get off on I-278 and take that into queens. (AFAIK this is the only way I can go with a uhaul. The other faster routes from Brighton to Astoria, queens would require a parkway, and according to NYC DOT uhauls are not allowed on any ny parkways).

In queens my movers are reserved to show up between 5-6pm which gives me 5 hours to get there. However, I realized after talking to my dad that I-95 Boston-nyc can sometimes take up to 6 hrs (insane) if there’s an accident, or just really bad traffic etc. so that made me worried I’d miss the movers time slot in queens…

So I thought I have two options here:

- I keep the plan to do the move in one day and just move the queens movers time slot to 6-7. Hopefully 6hrs is enough time to make that drive…

- OR I keep my uhaul in Brighton for one night and leave at 5am the next day. Then I would avoid the worst of the traffic hopefully, and I can move my queens movers from Saturday eventing to Sunday morning 9-10am.

Only problem with the second option is that I have no idea where I would leave the uhaul overnight in Boston…and of course I’m worried about people breaking in and stealing my stuff too. I do have a truck parking permit from Boston for my street on Saturday, (my street doesn’t require resident permits and is free, the permit just means by law people can’t park there for that day). I figure that permit guarantees me a parking spot, so after the time is up i can just…leave the uhaul there until 5am Sunday? But, as it’s street parking, I feel like it does leave it more vulnerable to people trying to break in and steal things. I do have a U lock, but idk if that would be enough to deter people. Also concerned that someone will ignore the sign and park there anyways lol (they did last year and I was so pissed) but I guess I could always get them towed if I have to.

Does anyone know if there’s any rules against this that I don’t know about? Like, is it fine to keep a 10’ uhaul parked on a street in Brighton overnight? Is the drive on I-95 from Boston to nyc at that time of day really that bad? Is it worth the risk of leaving my uhaul on the street with all my stuff in it to do the second option?

Advice on which way would be a better plan is appreciated!

Zelle won't let me send or pay requests. Customer service says 'too bad.' Any advice?

I'm in a bit of a pickle here and would appreciate hearing if anyone else has been through this and managed to fix it (and how long did it take etc.).

I joined ally bank specifically because the apartment that I'm signing a lease for in august only takes Zelle and my current credit union does not have it. I transferred my money to my new savings and checkings account, and now I'm trying to send the credit check fee through zelle and it kept giving me a pop up that said 'before you can send or receive zelle payments we'll need you to contact us at ally bank #'

So I do. They tell me that it's been flagged for fraud and to get around it I need to tell him to request the payment from me, and then I can approve it. He does. I try and approve the request and the same issue happens, payment fails, pop up, etc. I then try to just send $1, it fails. I then try and send a test $1 to my soon-to-be roommate (who already pays the landlord through zelle currently, but I don't think she has ally bank) same thing happens. So then I call back and they essentially say 'there's nothing we can do, it's all internal.' Like what do you mean you can't do anything? It's your system blocking it! They tell me to contact zelle, and I tell them I already looked on the zelle website and all it says is to contact your bank.

So now I'm getting nervous, because if I can't get this zelle thing to work then I need ot know as soon as possible so I can set up a new bank with zelle that DOES work. I then ask to talk to his manager just in case, which he does, and she tells me the same thing he did...except she says she'll also open a case with their 'zelle specialist.' Why it took 40 minutes of me refusing to give up before they told me about this zelle specialist I don't know, but at least this promises some sort of resolution...

Anyone have any experience with this situation? Any hope for this getting fixed in a timely manner? I'm trying to lock down a nyc apartment, so things go super fast. I really need to give them the 1st months rent and security as quickly as possible...And before you ask, I already alked to see if there was any other option other than zelle and he said there is not. Landlord only has Zelle.

Full Moving Company or Uhaul+Movers? (Boston-Queens)

Hi! I'm moving from Boston to Astoria in August, and I'm trying to figure out the best, most budget friendly, way to move. I'm moving the contents of a bedroom on the 4th floor in boston to a bedroom on the second floor in queens (just the room, roommate has everything for the shared space).

Moving company: $1950

The Math: Well Known Moving Company quoted me for 1700. I don't have a car though so I would also need to get a rental to drive to the city, which would be approx. 250 (200 for the car, at least 50$ for gas)

I assume that they would handle parking permits as well? Anyone have experience with this company?

Uhaul + Hire-a-Helper: $1251

The math: Uhaul: $266 + gas and tolls = approx. $365, Hire-a-Helper Boston: $350, Hire-a-helper Queens: $280 = $995, plus 20% tip for movers = $1121. Parking permit in boston for a 10' truck is 65$, not sure how much it is in queens but I'm assuming about the same, so total permit costs = 130. 1121 + 130 = $1250.

So far I'm leaning towards doing it myself, as it is quite a bit cheaper and I don't need to worry about getting a rental car on top of the moving company. However that does mean I'll have to drive a uhaul 4 hours on a saturday from Boston to NYC, which I'm a little worried about.

TLDR:

$1950 for Moving Company + rental car. (might be more if quoted price isn't accurate, and also do they handle parking permits?)

vs.

$1251 for Uhaul + Movers at boston/queens + parking permits. Would need to drive Uhaul Boston -> Astoria, Queens, is this a hard drive?

I'm leaning towards doing it myself because it's so much cheaper, but I'd love advice on it from others who have done the move, and especially let me know if there's things I haven't considered in my calculations.

Looking for a private room in Astoria! (31f, graphic designer, budget around 1300, Aug 1st move in)

Hello! I'm looking for a room in astoria with a good amount of space for a desk and full size bed. My move in date is Aug 1st preferably, budget is 1300 but could go to 1400 if utilities are included, but obviously the lower the better. I'm a graphic designer for an online college, I work fully remotely, I do not smoke and I have no issues with animals. I am living in Boston right now, but have a friend I can stay with in queens to see apartments, I just need a few days advance notice (also fine with video tours). Moving to the area to be closer to friends and family! A little about me: I love sitting in parks to paint, going to museums and new coffee shops and playing board games/video games. I’m clean and communicative and am looking for roommates that are the same. I am also bi, so LGBTQ friendly please! If we sound like a good fit DM me!
