New iPhone 17e - want to avoid the activation fee

I have in hand a new iPhone 17e purchased at the Apple Store and paid in full (no financing). I selected "unlocked" so it's not connected to any carrier and I haven't paid an activation fee. It will replace an existing line in our five-phone Verizon plan.

I intend to follow the advice given in a post from two years ago but wonder (before I get started) whether there's new/better information to accomplish this successfully. Here's what the previous post suggests:

"You will need to sign into your Verizon account & under your phone number who's the option to activate a device. Follow the follow path - devices - choose your line - activate or switch device - activate on an existing line - then follow the prompts. Enter the IMEl of the new phone & vzw will know its eSIM & give you the steps to activate the device."

Would this still be good information? I welcome all help and advice!
