The whole “never squeeze the tea bag” thing seems to come from the idea that pressing the bag releases extra tannins and makes the tea harsh. Technically that can happen, but in practice the amount is usually too small for most people to notice unless the tea was already over-steeped. Some blind taste tests even showed people couldn’t reliably tell which cup came from a squeezed tea bag and which didn’t. There is no significant effect.

Why YSK: I’d assume most of the readers here drink tea.
