Property damage
At the end of February I had a house that we are building vandalized. The person broke a total of five windows ( cost to replace is $9500 ). We caught the person and he was charged with mischief over $5000 and break and enter. He was not held and I’m not sure if he has a record. He confessed to the police and said he did it because he doesn’t like new houses in the neighbourhood.
Police told me I would be summoned to court on the court date and that the judge may rule that he owes us for damages if found guilty.
After looking into it a little bit I’m not sure the judge would do this and I’m thinking I may need to go through small claims court for the damage.
Does anyone have any insight into how I should proceed? Should I just wait it out ? Police did not provide any court information and I’m not sure of the persons name. If it matters this happened in Alberta.
