My 2 cents on why SA cases are so high here and what needs to be changed

It's the fear of being caught what keeps most criminals away not the punishment itself which is clear if you look at countries like NZ. But the conviction rate of SA cases in bangladesh is unfortunately the lowest in South Asia hovering around 3% compared to compared to 30, 20, 5 percent of India , Nepal and Pakistan respectively.

Here are some possible reasons as to why:

  • only one dna testing lab meaning the 3 victims everyday have to wait months to get result
  • same old British constitutional definition of SA
  • lack of Resistance doesn't mean consent. Sometimes the victim enters a state of shock and is unable to move. This needs to be explicity mentioned.
  • marital rap although one of the hardest to prove happens and needs to be recognized in the constitution.
  • There needs to be a dedicated law enforcement which exclusively focuses on SA. The police can't be used to handle everything.
  • then there's the element of social stigma. Most of the times police fail to protect the anonymity of the victim. This fear causes them to not file case in the first place
  • there's no victim or witnesses protection against the perpetrators often causing them to withdraw
  • the number of courts are simply not enough to handle the massive influx of these crimes. Which is why without mass media attention, cases take 8y to reach a verdict.

The interim gov is the main culprit behind this deadly measles epidemic

  • They cancelled deal with Unicef and gavi causing depleted stocks of vaccine shots and syringes
  • didn't conduct the routine mass vaccination campaign scheduled for 2024
  • didn't distribute the second round of vitamin a capsules which is what made the disease so deadly

Some are blaming BNP and BAL for it. But truth is BAL did mass measles vaccination campaign in 2016 and 2020 ensuring everyone was vaccinated. And BNP reversed all the irrational choices made by 'banker' turned health advisor Nurjahan Begum as fast as they could.

Child abuse is NOT EXCLUSIVE to Madrasas

People seem to be stereotyping Madrasas, dress code and culture for a problem that is common in student dormitories around the world. Here are some statistics to support my claim: 1. Australia: According to Final Report of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse (Australian Government), Between 1950 and 2010, 7% of all religious personnel in certain institutions were accused of CSA. In some specific residential school orders, the number of accused staff reached as high as 40%. The Commission found that the lack of supervision in boarding school dormitories was a primary "situational factor" that facilitated abuse. 2. United Kingdom: The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) published its final report in 2022. The inquiry examined 3,000 schools. In residential "special schools" (for children with disabilities), the risk was found to be even higher. The report highlighted that some prestigious boarding schools had dozens of victims associated with a single teacher over decades. The report noted that the "closed nature" of boarding school life allowed abusers to operate with impunity. 3. United States: A 2017 investigation by the Boston Globe identified at least 200 New England boarding schools where students reported sexual abuse by staff members. They documented over 1,000 victims across these elite institutions. My point is don't blame the institution, blame the people

r/Dhaka feels way more conservative than I expected... am I the only one noticing this?

Not trying to start a war, but I need to know if anyone else feels this.

r/Dhaka feels surprisingly conservative compared to what I expected from a city subreddit. Like, opinions sometimes seem very traditional, and anything even slightly modern or “different” gets weird reactions or downvotes.

It almost feels like the subreddit doesn’t fully represent a big, diverse city like Dhaka, more like a specific mindset dominates the space.(Specially extremist religious people)

Maybe I’m wrong, maybe it’s just the algorithm or the kind of posts I’ve seen.

But honestly: Does anyone else feel r/Dhaka has this conservative bias in vibe, or is it just me reading it wrong?

Be honest.
