Whenever rape happens some claim it is because Sharia is not applied. But Sharia has no clear stance on rape. Traditionally it treated rape as adultery requiring four male witnesses to penetration. That is impossible because rape is non‑consensual and no one commits adultery with witnesses standing by.

History shows women under Sharia often failed to get justice. Without witnesses or confession the accused walked free while the woman, because she admitted violation, was punished: lashed or even stoned.

Modern Sharia advocates now accept medical reports and DNA as proof saying four witnesses are not needed. But does that not mean Islamic law has changed? can it be altered? And if Sharia judges rape through medical evidence that is exactly what secular law already does. So what unique value does Sharia add?

Meanwhile countries like Japan, Singapore, Denmark, Norway, Finland and New Zealand, none of which enforce Sharia, report some of the lowest rape rates in the world. Their safety comes from education, strong institutions, cultural respect for law and effective enforcement, not religious law.

Those who demand Sharia governance do not know how to run a state, they only know how to stir chaos,they only know how to put women down,they only know how this law will favour them. Whenever a madrasha boy gets raped they don't ask for sharia. Why?

And remember: as long as we do not educate people, change our mentality and enforce proper laws nothing will ever change.

রাজধানীর মিরপুরের পল্লবীতে এক শিশুকে ধর্ষণের পর গলাকেটে হত্যার ঘটনার রেশ কাটতে না কাটতেই এবার রামপুরার বনশ্রীতে ১০ বছরের এক মাদ্রাসা শিক্ষার্থীর মরদেহ উদ্ধার করা হয়েছে। সুরতহাল শেষে পুলিশ বলছে, শিশুটির পায়ুপথ অস্বাভাবিক ফাঁকা। ধারনা করা হচ্ছে, শিশুটি ধর্ষণের শিকার হয়ে আত্মহত্যা করেছে।

মঙ্গলবার (১৯ মে) রাত সাড়ে ১১টার দিকে বনশ্রী সি ব্লকের ‘আলোকিত কোরআন ইন্টারন্যাশনাল হিফজু মাদ্রাসা’র বাথরুম থেকে গামছা দিয়ে গলায় ফাঁস লাগানো শিশুটির মরদেহ উদ্ধার করা হয়। 

নিহত শিশুটির নাম আব্দুল্লাহ (১০)। সে চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ সদর উপজেলার প্রবাসী আবুল কালাম আজাদের ছেলে। শিশুটি মাদ্রাসায় থাকতো এবং হিফজ বিভাগে পড়াশোনা করতো।

রামপুরা থানার উপ-পরিদর্শক (এসআই) মো. সাইফুল ইসলাম বলেন, সংবাদ পেয়ে মঙ্গলবার রাতে ওই মাদ্রাসার বাথরুমে গামছা দিয়ে গলায় ফাঁস লাগানো অবস্থায় আব্দুল্লাহকে দেখতে পাওয়া যায়। সেখান থেকে তার মরদেহ উদ্ধার করা হয়। পরে আইনি প্রক্রিয়া শেষে মৃতদেহটি ময়নাতদন্তের জন্য বুধবার (২০ মে) সকালে ঢাকা মেডিক্যার কলেজ হাসপাতাল (ঢামেক) মর্গে পাঠানো হয়েছে।

এসআই মো. সাইফুল ইসলাম আরও বলেন, প্রাথমিকভাবে গলায় ফাঁস লাগিয়ে আত্মহত্যা মনে হলেও সুরতহালে শিশুটির পায়ুপথ অস্বাভাবিক ফাঁকা পরিলক্ষিত হয়েছে। এতে ধারণা করা হচ্ছে সে বলাৎকারের শিকার হয়েছিলো এবং বলাৎকারের পর আত্মহত্যা করে থাকতে পারে। তবে ময়নাতদন্তের প্রতিবেদন পেলে মৃত্যুর সঠিক কারণ নিশ্চিতভাবে বলা যাবে।

পুলিশ জানিয়েছে, মৃতের স্বজনদের সংবাদ দেওয়া হয়েছে। মৃতের বাবা প্রবাসে থাকেন। ওই মাদ্রাসা কর্তৃপক্ষ প্রবাসে থাকা মৃতের বাবার সঙ্গে মুঠোফোনে কথা বলেছেন বলেও পুলিশ নিশ্চিত করেছে।

ইউনিসেফ অন্তর্বর্তী সরকারের সময় স্বাস্থ্য মন্ত্রণালয়কে লেখা অন্তত পাঁচটি চিঠিতে সম্ভাব্য টিকা–সংকটের কথা বলে সতর্ক করেছিল। তারা ১০টি মিটিংয়ে সরকারের কর্মকর্তাদের কাছে একই কথা জানিয়েছিল। ইউনিসেফ মনে করে, অন্তর্বর্তী সরকার টিকা ক্রয়প্রক্রিয়ায় পরিবর্তন আনায় দেশে সময়মতো টিকা আসেনি।

আজ বুধবার দুপুরে ইউনিসেফ কার্যালয়ে আয়োজিত সংবাদ সম্মেলনে এ কথা বলেন ইউনিসেফের প্রতিনিধি রানা ফ্লাওয়ার্স। তিনি বলেন, ভালো খরব হচ্ছে, ১ কোটি ৮০ লাখের বেশি শিশু হামের টিকা পেয়েছে। হাম নিয়ন্ত্রণে। বর্তমানে পরিস্থিতির উন্নতি হতে শুরু করেছে বলে জানিয়েছে ইউনিসেফ।

সংস্থাটির দেওয়া তথ্য অনুযায়ী, গত বছরের আগস্ট থেকে নভেম্বরের মধ্যে বাংলাদেশ ১৭.৮ মিলিয়ন ডোজ হামের টিকা পেয়েছে, যা দেশের মোট চাহিদার মাত্র এক-তৃতীয়াংশ। বাংলাদেশে প্রতি বছর প্রায় ৭০ মিলিয়ন ডোজ টিকার প্রয়োজন হয়, কিন্তু পর্যাপ্ত সরবরাহের অভাবে রুটিন টিকাদান কর্মসূচি দীর্ঘ সময় ধরে ব্যাহত হয়েছে। রুটিন টিকাদান কর্মসূচিতে এই দীর্ঘস্থায়ী বিঘ্নের কারণে অনেক শিশু টিকা ছাড়াই থেকে যায়। যা দেশে হাম সংক্রমণের ঝুঁকি বাড়িয়ে দেয় এবং শেষ পর্যন্ত বড় আকারের প্রাদুর্ভাবের সৃষ্টি করে।

এই সংকট কোনো অর্থ বা তহবিলের অভাবের কারণে হয়নি উল্লেখ করে ইউনিসেফ জানিয়েছে, ক্রয় প্রক্রিয়ায় দীর্ঘসূত্রতার কারণে সময়মতো টিকা সংগ্রহ করা সম্ভব হয়নি।

টিকার সংকট ও হামে শিশুমৃত্যুর ঘটনা তদন্তে সরকারি উদ্যোগকে স্বাগত জানান রানা ফ্লাওয়ার্স। ইউনিসেফ তদন্তে সহায়তা করবে কি না, এক সাংবাদিকের এমন প্রশ্নের উত্তরে ইউনিসেফ প্রতিনিধি বলেন, ‘ইউনিসেফ সব সময় সত্যের পক্ষে।’

২০০৯ সালে ১১ জন নারীকে ধর্ষণ ও হত্যার অভিযোগে তাকে গ্রেপ্তার করা হয়। অভিযোগ উঠেছিল, সে নারীদের ওপর অকল্পনীয় নির্যাতন চালিয়েছে— যা শুনলেও মানুষের গা শিউরে ওঠে।

সে নাকি মনে মনে ঠিক করে রেখেছিল, ১০১ জন নারীকে ধর্ষণ করার পর তওবা করে সাধু হয়ে যাবে। আদালত ২০০৯ সালেই তার ফাঁসির আদেশ দেয়। কিন্তু ২০২৬ সালেও সেই রায় কার্যকর হয়নি।

প্রায় সতেরো বছর ধরে জেলের ভেতর আরামে আছে সে। জনগণের ট্যাক্সের টাকায় খাওয়া-দাওয়া, চিকিৎসা— সবকিছু চলছে। অথচ যাদের মেয়ে-বোনকে সে নির্যাতন করে হত্যা করেছে, তাদের পরিবারের ট্যাক্সের টাকাতেও এই খরচ উঠছে।

একজন নৃশংস অপরাধীকে বছরের পর বছর জেলে বসিয়ে রেখে রাষ্ট্র কী বার্তা দিচ্ছে? আমরা ট্যাক্স দেই নিরাপত্তা ও ন্যায়বিচারের জন্য, কিন্তু পাই শুধু দীর্ঘসূত্রিতা আর বিচারহীনতা।

ভিকটিমদের পরিবারগুলো আজও ন্যায়ের অপেক্ষায় আছে। জেলে আরামে থাকা নয়, আমরা চাই দ্রুত ও সঠিক বিচার। না হলে এই ব্যবস্থা শুধু অপরাধীদেরই উৎসাহিত করবে।
