A Werewolf in Paris

A potential werewolf lore point for the show is that, like Hydes, werewolves lose control of their minds when separated from their mate or severed from that bond. Enid, unaware that her wolf had imprinted on Wednesday during her first transformation, fled. Now, the more she distances herself from Wednesday, the worse her mental state becomes and the more her alpha instincts dominate. Enid struggles internally, torn between the primal urge to return to her mate and the knowledge that doing so would endanger Wednesday by drawing pursuers. So Enid runs as far as she can and ends up in Paris, but she’s not in her complete right mind and draws attention to herself.

Six key moments that changed Wednesday’s brain chemistry: a short analysis

1: Enid’s departure. After the disastrous night, Wednesday finds Enid packing her bag. Enid is angry at her deception and decides to leave. It becomes their first real argument. Enid tells her, “You want to be alone, Wednesday? Be alone.” Wednesday, uncharacteristically, slumps to the floor and hugs her knees. She admits, for the first time, the thought and feeling of being alone don't feel good. It’s a rare crack in her armor, a moment of vulnerability that reveals just how much Wednesday has come to care about Enid and how fast she has become accustomed to her presence.

2: The hug. In the aftermath of Crackstone, Wednesday and Enid see each other again. Enid rushes toward her and pulls her into a hug. At first, Wednesday instinctively pushes her away, but then she looks at Enid and takes everything in. The girl is bloodied, battered, and crying. She not only wolfed out for the first time to save Wednesday but also nearly died for her. Wednesday realizes how special Enid is to her. She proceeds to let her guard down and bring Enid into a fierce hug. Wednesday, who usually rejects sentimentality, buries her face in Enid’s neck and melts into her embrace.

3: The graveyard. At Rotwood’s grave, Wednesday and Enid must share what they learned about one another after spending time in each other's bodies. As usual, Wednesday hesitates, and Enid goes first. Enid reveals one of Wednesday’s deepest fears: that she thinks she’s too dark even for her own family. Perhaps I’m reaching a bit with this point, but I believe this fear extends to Enid as well. If Wednesday thinks her own mother, who also appreciates the macabre, might feel that way, then someone as bright and warm as Enid surely could too. Yet Enid doesn’t feel that way at all. She simply suggests that Wednesday reconsider her approach to her mother’s advice and teachings. Then Wednesday makes Enid a promise: no matter what Enid presents as, she will never be alone as long as Wednesday is alive. It’s a raw and touching moment for both of them and a call back to their first time on the balcony. Wednesday went from “everyone dies alone” to reassuring her that she won’t allow her to be alone.

4: Enid’s revelation. After repairing their friendship, Wednesday goes with Enid to the Lupin cages. She senses Enid’s nervousness and asks, “What’s wrong, Enid?” Enid reveals that, as an alpha, she now risks being permanently stuck in that form and hunted by others. The moment is intense, and Enid confides, “Capri says my strength is in my pack. But the truth is, you are my pack, Wednesday.” Wednesday visibly reacts, exhaling deeply, shifting, and averting her eyes as she processes this. Enid not only shares a heavy burden but also calls Wednesday her strength. Wednesday does not deny, contradict, or deflect with sarcasm; instead, she quietly takes it in. When Enid asks if Wednesday would come find her if she wolfed out, Wednesday immediately promises she would. She assures Enid that she will always come for her, because Wednesday is now part of Enid’s pack. Packs stay together. Packs protect each other. Packs are bonded for life. I only wish Ajax’s interruption hadn’t cut the moment short. I wanted to see them both sit with the full weight of how much they truly mean to each other.

5: Enid’s sacrifice. After spending all of season 2 trying to save Enid’s life, everything culminates in this single moment. When the dust settles, Wednesday comes to two shattering realizations. First, in the end, Enid was the one who saved her; second, that Wednesday had inadvertently cursed her. Because of Wednesday, Enid is now presumably stuck as an alpha, destined to be hunted by her own kind. Wednesday also realizes that no one has ever made such a sacrifice for her before. No one has ever loved her enough to risk everything and face condemnation for her sake. I believe that, in this moment, Wednesday understands Enid loves her, even if not romantically yet. I also think Wednesday realizes she feels the same. Personally, I prefer this as the true beginning of their feelings for each other. This is when Wednesday truly starts to love Enid, and I hope season 3 will show her falling deeper, with season 4 exploring her romantic intentions.

6: Enid’s picture. After everything that has happened and the fallout from Thing’s connection to Isaac, Wednesday prepares to leave when Agnes enters. Wednesday immediately asks, “What have you been able to figure out?” This follows her urgent demand that Agnes track Enid after she ran off. Wednesday wasted no time fulfilling her promise to "hunt" Enid and began searching for her. Agnes then shows her a blurry photo of werewolf Enid in the woods. Despite the unclear image, Wednesday recognizes Enid instantly. She tilts her head, and her expression softens, as if thinking, “Oh, Enid.” This is the first time she has seen Enid since that night. It is a small but powerfully tender moment for me. She misses Enid. And she wastes no time going to find her.

There are other moments, but these are the ones that stand out most to me.

Only Enid

One subtle thing I notice about the way Wednesday interacts with Enid is that she reserves a particular softness exclusively for her. Wednesday speaks in a monotone voice, yes, but there is always a sharp bite to it. Except with Enid. Around her, Wednesday’s tone softens and her words are chosen carefully. Even when it’s someone else, Wednesday’s tone changes when she speaks about Enid. Her eyes become more expressive, and her gaze unguarded. She allows herself to let her walls down with Enid, which is why she can be so vulnerable with her. She doesn’t have to put up a hardened front. Around Enid, she can just be.
