Odysseus is one of the dumbest and easiest characters to play like a fiddle. All you have to do is mention Penelope and home (where Penelope presumably is) and you can make him do whatever you want him to. Eurylochus' big problem is that when he's trying to talk to Odysseus he only mentions "think of the men we've left before there's none!" And Odysseus doesn't listen because it's not about Penelope. Let's look at a few other examples.

Zeus asks Odysseus to kill a baby, and initially Odysseus protests, but as soon as Zeus mentions Penelope he changes his mind and gives Astyanax a new view of the Troy City street pavement. And admittedly the king of the gods is telling Odysseus to do this so I guess there's some weight there.

Tiresias doesn't say a word about needing to drop his morals or be a Monster/Ruthless or anything like that, but he does sing about a man with a trail of bodies with his wife and Odysseus loses all braincells instantly in favor of "I'll drop another infant off a wall! I'll become a Monster and then we'll make it home!"

And admittedly Zeus is a god, Tiresias is a prophet... But then you have this random siren Odysseus has never met before. And he even assumes she's evil and a manipulator with no chance of being anything else which is why he says "Nah." To her begging to be spared... But Sirenelope just says "This is your only way home, through the lair of Scylla..."

And immediately, with no double checking, no followup questions, even after he puts her in a net and she starts begging for her life... nothing. A switch just flips and Odysseus instantly decides "Well damn, I guess I better betray my men and set six of them up like a free barbeque." Seriously Odysseus? You're just buying that with no problems at all?

If Eurylochus had just phrased some things differently he probably could have gotten Odysseus to actually listen.
