I miss my girl so much

Last Wednesday I lost my best friend. Raven was such a good girl. She was so loving, gentle, goofy, loyal, protective and just all around the best dog I've ever loved. Everywhere I went she was by my side. I mean this quite literally as in even if I went to the bathroom, she was sitting, waiting patiently by the door for me to come out. She watched me cook, she welcomed me home from work everyday, she tripped me endlessly because she was always a step behind or beside me, she gave me so much love and happiness and I gave it right back to her. I miss her so much and everything I do and everywhere I go reminds me of her. I feel so broken and alone. I even miss her grown man sounding snores lol. Maybe it would've been a tiny bit better if I had had any time to prepare myself but her passing came out of nowhere. She was a healthy girl right up until the night before. She started throwing up and very early the next morning I got a call at work from my poor son hysterically crying telling me that she was gone. She was only 8. I don't know what happened to her and I probably never will.

She came to us from horrible circumstances. She was only a few months old and had been abused and in a hurricane where her abusive owners left her to fend for herself. Thankfully someone found her. She was transferred from her birth state to mine. All of the people in the shelter that day and she ignored them all except for me. I was halfway across the room, petting a dog and I kept hearing this high pitched bark. I turned around to see a couple trying to talk to her but she was standing up peeking over the enclosure looking right at me, barking and wagging her tail. I fell in love right then and there. I like to think that she chose me. I "rescued" her that very day but really, she rescued me. She brought so much love and light into my life & my children's lives. I don't really have anyone to talk to about this because I don't want to upset the kids more than they already are and some people just don't understand. I've had some people tell me to get another dog as if that's all she was. As if she wasn't a loved and very much valued member of my family. She could never be replaced. I thought it might help a bit to get this out somewhere where people have been through or are still going through the same thing. Thanks for listening kind strangers.
