Type one diabetics on Monjoro (Need advice/experiences)
So I am a type one diabetic, on an insulin pump and cgm for the last few years. And I am getting married in September. My endo asked if since I was getting married if I was interested in weight loss. And starting on the monjoro shot. He said the biggest concern would be possible bad hypos. Which for me is terrifying because I have a bad habit of getting really bad anxiety if I get to low and making myself sick strictly with my anxiety. But I wanted to lose some weight so I tried it.
Currently I am not even on week 3, my next shot would be Tuesday. And I am already down 20 pounds! My blood sugars have been so stable and I have needed way less insulin. About half of what I would need in a daily basis. My blood sugars have been amazing. Flat lines on my cgm. It is very exciting and I love it.
However. I am worried about 1, such a quick weight loss. In total it’s only been 2 weeks and 5 days and I am down from 196 to 176. 20 pounds in such a short time seems a little scary? Or is that normal? Second, I have had zero appetite. I mean I could eat nothing in a day and be fine. I’m having to force myself to eat something. But when I’m not hungry it’s very hard for me to try and eat much protein. Which I know I need with loosing this much weight. I’m barely being able to eat a piece of bread. Third, some of these side effects are making this much worse. When I get anxiety I tend to be very nauseous. But with this medicine I keep getting god awful heartburn, which is making me wanna throw up. And I have quite often. It’s normally middle of the night or early morning I wake myself up and get sick. Lucky, me getting sick isn’t causing me to go low like it normally would. But it is horrible. I’m taking nausea medicine. And those chewable tums but it is not doing a whole lot.
I’m just curious if anyone else has had a similar experience? I don’t have any diabetic friends sadly so I have nobody to talk to that had experienced this. I’m debating on cutting my dose from once a week to once every two weeks and seeing if that helps the side effects and my appetite? I am on the smallest dose. So I can’t really go down a dose.
Any advice or experiences would be appreciated!
