Newbie safety professional

Hi everyone, I just have some questions about safety careers. I was injured in the workplace about a year ago and underwent a couple surgeries and require more in the future. WSIB is sending me back to school and workplace safety really caught my eye, I believe I’ll really enjoy it.

I’m just going to college now in a program at Seneca polytechnic - workplace and safety prevention program. I’m just wondering if anyone on here has went the college route to get a safety coordinator job in Ontario, Canada ? How hard was it to land a job after school? What did you do to stand out to potential recruits?

I have 15-18 years of experience in construction (all trades pretty much) and landscaping and owning a company for almost 7 years of it and had to overlook safety of the guys regularly. I was just wondering if my experience in construction will help me stand out from other candidates trying to find jobs in safety? Since i have experience on the other side of safety and know how construction guys look at safety guys and work with them. (And what they say behind their backs lol 😂jk😜)

Hi guys, I’m 36M years old and recently Injured at work and need to be retrained due to my injury. I’m going for workplace safety and prevention program for 2 years.

I’m just wondering someone being my age and me feeling silly for going so late in life is there anything I should do or should be ready for? If you have any tips or survival advice for Seneca college please tell me! I’m very nervous about going and think I look silly being there. Thanks for your time.
