My 1st Version of EXCUSE CAT!

Glad that I have my first project as a beginner. The project is called as “Excuse Cat”.

It’s a tiny desk companion that explains why my project is still not done. It starts on a home screen, then a button press enters the main screen and generates a random excuse with a matching cat expression. If there’s no interaction for a while, it returns to the home screen. The enclosure is based on other project, where I only make some adjustments on it through 3D printing. The codes are written in Arduino IDE.

Right now it’s USB-powered and controlled by one button. I’d like to make it more interactive, maybe with sensors for gesture, tilt, shaking, or picking it up, so the cat can react with different moods but I still don’t know how to solder yet.

Do you have advice for this project? (I'm also collecting some funny reasons for procrastination) Maybe the cat will be a board pet or something like that.

Every suggestion is welcomed here ;)

I made an EXCUSE CAT as a beginner

I’m a beginner working on a small ESP32 e-paper project called “Excuse Cat”.

Do you have advice for this project? (I'm also collecting some funny reasons for procrastination for makers.

Everything is welcomed. ;)

What’s your most ridiculous excuse for not finishing a project today?

I’m making a tiny e-paper desk board that generates excuses for why a project is still not done.

At first I was thinking of very maker-specific excuses like broken code, missing parts, failed prints, etc.

But honestly, my real excuses are sometimes things like:

- Because it’s raining.
- Because the vibe is wrong.
- Because I opened the CAD file and immediately needed a snack.
- Because the project looked at me with judgment.

So now I’m collecting funny, slightly ridiculous, but painfully relatable excuses.

What would your desk board say today?

My sheep boss took over my e-paper board

I’ve been using this e-paper board as a small desk dashboard for weather and daily info.

Today my little sheep joined the setup and insisted that I post it online so everyone can see how cute she is.

My weather board is begging for a SUNNY DAY!

How’s the weather where you are? It feels like I haven’t seen the sun forever in my new weather board for almost a week or more...

I want my sunshine back and my tanned skin too 😭 These cloudy days are driving me soooo crazy. Anyone else tired of this weather?
