How do you hustle your way out of broke in Berlin as a B1 foreigner?
I'm looking for odd/weekend jobs now but they only seem to be hiring students, fluent German speakers, or both.
For those who were in a dire financial situation, what got you out of the pit? Are there some idk, secret WhatsApp groups where people just post short gigs on a rolling basis? I draw the line on anything illegal.
longer context for those who want it:
I hit a perfect storm of being in IT (layoffs), being in Berlin for under a year (no ALG), and not being fluent in German. (B1). I happen to not sit on a pile of savings - was never really a high earner even in the golden days of tech. I'm trying to hustle my way through this. But all jobs I applied to have rejected my stuff/didn't respond. That includes Zeit für Brot, a donut store, 10+ coffee shops and restaurants, and a Picnic warehouse. I can drive, but I don't have a car or an e-bike so Uber/deliveries would be tough for now. I am doing AI training / data annotation but that's very unstable. I tried the boomer method - i.e. just walking around handing resumes - no one cared so far tbh. There must be something I'm doing wrong - I mean foreigners get by in this city somehow?
