Waiting between build up & crown after a root canal?
My husband just got a root canal. He needs the build up and crown, but our insurance will only cover about $100 more of work. Paying $1200 out of pocket is out of our budget right now so I’m trying to find a way to make this work so his root canal doesn’t fail.
He is starting a new job (we are moving states) and will have access to new dental insurance in 10-11 weeks that will reset the maximum.
Our current dentist said he understands the insurance and cost issue. He said we could do the build up only (less than 3 weeks after the root canal) and then wait a little bit on the crown. He wouldn’t give a timeline for how long to wait between build up and crown… would waiting 10-11 weeks be feasible?
Additional details:
My husband is 24 and has never had dental insurance until now.
This is for a back molar. He got a filling a few years ago that fell out about one year ago. He essentially avoided using that side of his mouth for a year. Then the tooth chipped and that prompted me to help him figure out how to use his dental insurance and get a root canal.
We have a new baby and are about to move across the country so there’s a lot going on and I’m trying to find the best financial options that don’t put his health at risk.
