I've been doing a shake out at least once a year for the last 3 years. My locs were sandy and dry af after going to the beach and spending 2 weeks in the desert and it moisturised my locs so well 😍 defo recommend trying if you can

I'm not super strict with moisturising my hair, but in summer (especially when I'm visiting family in the desert) I like to make sure I stay on top of keeping my locs moisturised. I always make my own, and it always has some combination of these ingredients followed by sealing with oil :)
I've seen a loooootttttt of anti-airdrying posts (mainly on insta) from locticians and influencers. Someone even tried to tell me that I have mould I just "don't know it" and that I should cut a loc open to prove it.. lol. Yes it *can* cause mould but improper care can cause a lot of things. I would never tell someone to not airdry, just make sure you do it properly. Wash your hair in the morning, go outside/sit in the sun etc.. I'm almost 5 years in and have never used a dryer and my locs are healthy and mould free.. Anyway, here's me drying my hair on my countryside walk this morning ✨️
I don't know what I had going on beforehand but my locs literally saved my life and my hairline
I like to keep my retwists super light. I had to take the clips out before they were dry 🫠 but they still held up alright (water and oil used, air dry only)
October last year to today. Excuse the low quality pics and dirty mirror lol
