Can my mum refuse to give me the money that is supposed to be inherited to me at 20 years old?
(Uk) Basically I am 20yrs old and my grandma (my mother’s, mum) passed away recently and in her will she stated that I was to inherit £3000, as do my brothers and cousins. She said she will put it in my savings (which I have no access to) so I can put it towards a house in the future because that’s apparently what her mum (my grandma) told me to do with the money or on something more “worthwhile”
So I have asked her to send me £600 odd, out of inheritance in my savings account she had made and set up for me when I would be too young to have a bank account myself, to spend it on a new double bed to upgrade from my old worn single bed and just some extra small costs such as clothing items. She is out right saying no and saying “That is not what the money was left to you for.” Yet in my opinion a new bigger bed is quite worthwhile and long lasting especially when I could transfer this new bed into my new home in 5+ years time.
She is only reacting like this cause she thinks I have poor financial decisions and can’t save it either. There is no where in the will that states I am to recieve the inheritance money at 21 or 25 etc so surely I should legally be allowed to have access to this £3000 right now? I understand she might think I have bad financial choices but then again Im not asking to use the whole £3000 in go? I just would like £600 ish out of it for a new bed a mattress MAINLY, but then a bit of extra for underwear that I desperately need and also the “unnecessary” clothing items. How can get my inheritance money if I have no access to my mums bank account, which has my savings account with the £3000 in?
