WTF America? Healthcare here is horrible
i’m making this post because I am really disappointed in the reality of the American healthcare system. Today in NorCal, a family member had his four year-old daughter slip in the shower and then she was bleeding from her vagina. He took her to the urgent care center and they told him they would not do a vaginal examination on a child and he had to go to the ER.
When they got to the ER, they went to triage, and after explaining the situation, they explained that there was nothing that could be done and she would just have to heal with time. They told them that it might hurt when she peed for a while, but it would heal and everything would be good.
The shocker here was after triage. They went to check out and were told they could go home. They were told that this was 1/3 of the co-pay on their employer subsidized insurance plan.
The total for this visit was $3100 on the co-pay with insurance. So that means this was almost $10,000 for near nothing. Just a diagnosis and being told to deal with it heal, and by the way you owe us three grand.
We’re failing hard. This sucks and I am really sad about the state of our world right now.
