The war mercenary machines and the disposability of men
Imagine the following headline: Foreign government uses social media and promisse of high salary to lure women into the country. After they sign their contract, passport are retained and they cant go back to their countries. There they face physical and mental abuse, and are extremely likely to die.
In this scenario, there would be national cry, investigations, diplomats would be called, etc.
Except, this is the daily reality faced by many young men from third world countries that fell victim to propaganda, promisses of salary, manhood, belongining, honor. Both russia and ukraine operate campaign of recruiting full of lies and deception. Often those man are sent to the front and used as meat fodder for them. Meanwhile the soldiers influencers sell the lies everyday on instagram and telegram.
We grow up hearing that manhood is sacrificing. The hero dies to save the world. The great warrior fought with honor. etc. Every week I see posts on social media of young man, "mercenaries", dying in this war, and all they receive is laughs. They choosed it. But when an young woman goes to dubai for modeling and suffers abuse, its an human trafficking tragedy.
Nowdays, ukraine doesnt even bother to tell the loved ones that their children are dead.
Its easy to put all the blame on the young man without asking "Was money really the reason?"
